Went down to both stores today to sus out these fridges, both the same price $599.00 on the box it states 12 volt only, power consumption 100w or 8 amp.
Maximum temp drop -15.c, no basket, below average quality, but for the average weekend camper probably OK .In the outback i don't think so.

Well.. 8 amps current draw doesn't really tell you how long it's going to run on a fully charged battery. If it runs less time during an "on" cycle it may overall well be the same as a waeco or engel. The only issue would be when the battery is quite flat, it may not be able to start any more, but by then, the others won't run for much longer either.
They only valid test would be to run 2 side by side.
(you can make a waeco draw over 5 amps too when you press the turbo button)

Cheers

That's true, but if it draw's 8 amps and can only pull down to -15c
maybe it's not so efficient?

Yes.. that may be so. But the proof is in the pudding.
I would not expect it to perform like the better known ones, but then again, it may be surprisingly good.
I do think I have seen the same ones 100 bucks cheaper than that price.
Cheers

sounds like Pielter effect (solid state) cooling.

Save your pennies and you batteries and buy a second hand compressor type fridge

Yeah they are a compressor frindge, the primus water cooled pielter is another good alternative, just a little expensive for the size. My Pielter with the upgrades draws over 8 amps and only goes down to about -1 @ 20c ambiant.

bought one from SuperCheap when first came out for $499
been around Australia returned Friday did Tanami, Birds ville, Merty Merty, Strezleki, Gibb River and heaps around Kimberleys. The SuperCheap fridge worked beaut and less power consumption than mates Engel. Engel went in for repair in Darwin and again at Perth. Mate was real xxxxxx off as he mocked me telling me my cheap fridge would fail before we left. Mates Engel cost 3 times more and failed 2 times my SuperCheap never failed. SuperCheap fridge not below average quality is a great fridge proven

Gotta have something to argue about gramps and Wombat should be told not to leave the outside temp sensor in the sun.

I know a guy that has used a 40 litre engel on all his trips for over 20 years, and has been serviced once & its still kicking along, He swears by strapping it down onto his tray with 4 bits of thick foam under the rubber feet & to steer clear of jelly pads and the like. I bought my engel 5 years ago and havent had a problem with it, for what its worth Ive been told by many people the cheaper the fridge the more power it draws. My engel on seting 3 has run for 3 1/2 days and lights at night before it drained the battery (with no charging).

Methinks ACDC is looking to import some fridges, to go with his winches, and is trying to gauge what sort of response he gets to the $599 price......

lol...nothing like free market research.

Cheers,

Chump
