I am getting a high pitched squeaking noise from my rear leaf suspension on my 99 Hilux xcab. After looking at the suspension it looks like the leafs are rubbing on a bracket. This bracket looks like it has a rubber coating on it that has worn away. On the advice of a friend he suggested that I try and knock the leafs away from the bracket with a hammer....but the squeak is still there. Do I need to get the leafs replaced or is it a recondition job...Can anyone give me some advice.

This is not uncommon. The leaves have moved out of alignment and are rubbing on the inside edge of the guide plates. Loosen the u bolt nuts and belt the leaves back into alignment.

Davoe,

If you've been doing a bit of dirt/mud driving the springs can become a bit squeeky when the mud dries between them, try a high pressure wash of the springs first.

Thx MadDog. That thread seems to have everything I need. So I'll loosen the bolts, hit it with a hammer and tighten the bolts up again. Plus some lube will help as well I guess.

Mate!

Before you start flogging into it with the 'knock-o-meter', give both rear leaf packs a good hosing out with a lanolin based spray like LANTOTEC.

You will most probably be P I S S ED and amazed at the result.

The give it a 'smack' if it needs it.
