Thanks Pezza... But i should really add to my answer....
May is still a little wet up there if a good wet season happens over the xmas / new year period....( Nov to March )...
June is good...
July is the perfect choice....
August is almost as good....
Sept is getting warmer....
Oct "HOT"...
PS... These are under normal conditions...

May is perfect,
June is pathetic.
July is shocking.
Aug is terrible.
Sept is good...........................................................
The temperature may be nice in winter but that's when thousands of people head up there. On May 28 it's as though a flood
gate is opened as hundreds of 4bys migrate north. We counted 200 to 300 per day, making tonnes of dust and filling
camp sites to overflowing. It all adds to the stress that I for one try to get away from. We last went up in May & although you may need to be prepared for deeper river crossings it is IMHO far better than fighting with the crowd. We were able to drive into caravan parks without booking & pick a shady site with beach
views. Try that in July ;-)
Cape York in Winter?? Never again.
Cheers Craig...................

Good answer by Voxson, though jun-aug, is preferable by 'non-hot-weather-coping' mexicans I think. lol

We just came back from
Cape York, went up mid sept. No flies, no rain, not much
water in creeks, weather good.

I have just come back after spending the best part of September up that way.. The temps were
well and truly bearable and even at the top end it wasn't stifling heat as I would expect ... maybe 32 or something but it wasn't a energy sapping heat....
As far as traffic goes it was pretty quiet and there was always plenty of
camping area to be had.......
But it was pretty dry... Most
creek crossings were like sand pits and it was all easily driven... After haven just been up in September I think I would try it a bit earlier next time around (if there is a next time around) to get a bit extra
water.
Cheers
