Pulled up at a garage and a guy my age (not a teenager) was filling up a container on his Troopys' roofrack. His wife smiles at me and I think 'Ahh lucky man, he's off somewhere'. Then I spot something I find most unusual....
Mounted across the top of his BONNET is a big solar panel. The front protruded in front of the bar by a couple of inches ( that in itself is illegal AFAIK) and the panel took up most of the bonnet area!
As a fellow 4wder I know whay he has it etc, but question its legality, sensibility and public image values.
Am I wrong ?

Surprised he was driving a Troopy, odd behaviour is usually the exclusive preserve of Landy owners. Boffins what?!

Maybe he just wants to admire it...

I wonder if any reflections off the surface would impede his vision ?

Bob, judging by the surfboards etc on the rack I'm sure he was lost. I initially thought good on ya, lots of exercise, sun sand and ...well all that goes with it. But the solar panel on the bonnet has me stumped. The local boys in blue won't be impressed.

Good idea to always have a camera handy. I never leave home without it, never know what you will see these days.

I saw a troopy in Perth with a solar panel on the bonnet(nice and wide and overhanging) and a petrol generator stuffed between the radiator and the bullbar. He was an old boy and the rest of the vehicle was pretty spazy too(home made everything from tow bar, roofrack and bullbar)Still he was happy and getting out there and seeing Oz.

Had I seen it on the track I probably wouldn't of batted an eyelid. But I live on the Gold Coast...hmm...that might explain it :)

Evening trendsetters.

Must say, you are a bunch of Fascists the way you have bagged that ‘gentleman’.

It might surprise you to know that he is a highly educated (4 degrees and a PhD in Physics) member of the Troopy Driving fraternity.

That container he was filling on the roof is in fact the ‘fuel tank’ for his prototype Aqua Purer, Gaseous Energy, laser light refracting quantum motion engine, that runs on the water he was placing in that tank of the roof.

The Solar Panel apparently has been modified somehow with inverted prisms to convert the suns rays into mini lasers that when refracted, crack the water into hydrogen and oxygen.

His wife wasn’t smiling at your ‘bitz’ Footloose, she was laughing her ‘tips’ off at you filling up with an environment unfriendly petroleum based product that was going to cost you a weeks wages.

In view of the aforementioned I strongly suggest you all cease waxing philosophic with metaphysical postulations, incomplete aphorisms, and inconsistent sophisms that make one more and more sure that the only true thing is that a picture is worth a thousand words.

NOW ! Get/take a camera next time so we all can share in your gobsmacking experience.

(ROFLMAO)
