Evening Neil..

Cant realy comment on the GU (unfortunotly) but I have a GQ 4.2EFI running it on both gas and petrol and have found it to be fantastic. Get the same power and same milage out of the gas as we do the petrol. Havent had an ounce of trouble with the gas system since we bought it, and its now done around the 230,000k and the gas system is around 11 years old. Couldnt recomend the gas more ... especially with petrol prices going through the roof.

Have also had the gas/petrol setup on two different Falcons and had excellent run out of both of them as well.

Just my experiance.

I've looked into gas on the GU, and WISH I had bought a duel fuel one straight away. I know a few guys that have recently converted their GU's to Gas.

Mine will hopefully be done early 2006.

During my research I found that the 4.5 in the Patrol is almost built for gas. Nothing needs to be added , like valve lube etc, that I believe the Yota 4.5 does.

The only real dramas with Gas is the reduction in ground clearance with the gas tank, and the reduced range with the smaller fuel tank.

They are usually fixed to a certain degree, with a small lift, 50mm or so, and having the bigger 85l fuel tank fitted in place of the small subtank.

IMO, if you do a big(ish) number of K's a year, its certainly worth looking into.

I have a 2000 GU on Gas.
It was already on gas when I bought it and 40000ks later i havent had any trouble with it.It takes around 85 lts of gas when empty and around perth I get about 300km and when travelling with trailer, wife ,kids and roofrack get around the 350kms.
one problem is when it was converted they replaced the main petrol tank and left the sub tank which only holds 30 lts of ulp.So main concern is distance between refilling especially as i dont like using petrol much given the current price.
Mind you gas has double in price in the past 2 years as well.
Mine is an impco system and like i said so far no probs

Look for any system that uses an Impco gas converter, they're the ones to go for IMHO, my GQ has gas and I changed over from the gas system I had to Impco and got 20% more km's from the tank.

Only downside as others mentioned is gas availability off the beaten track.

dont know were your situated but if in melbourne give Lakeside Auto a ring are impco lpg experts and can answer all your questions .
Be aware you may be waiting 4-6 weeks for a conversion these days as fitters are flat out and gas parts are currently on a 4-5 week wait including gas tanks for the popular vehicles .
The GU is a fantastic car on gas ....Their num is 94605630
