Has anyone put a double carden joint into an 80 series landcruiser.I was told that the hilux joint will fit into the landcruiser, but the plate from landcruiser trassfer case and the hilux carden joint are slightly differnt in size or do they use some of the existing uni from the orginal shaft.Any help would be great.PS.Do four runners and hiluxes use the same joint as
well
Thanks

I am getting some vibration niose fromthe shaft and it is not the transfer case , gearbox, or front diff, i had them all checked out.and i also have a lift kit in the 80 as
well and the concenses is that is where the noise is coming from.

I have the same type of thing. I recently replaced the front drive shaft uni joints, and the one at the diff end has already failed (less than 10K km). I have a 2 inch lift kit installed. I'm just abut to replace the worn uni joint again, but am watching this post to see if the double joint would be useful.

Just a thought on shafts with uni joints in them. If the joint operates through any angle other than staight thru, the driven half of the joint changes speed twice each revolution. Also the joint on the other end of the shaft. Now this doesn't matter if the joints on each end are changing at the same rate and time. In order for this to occur the two U shaped sections of joint on the shaft (tailshaft) should be in the same plane. In other words if you were to take the whole thing and lay it on the floor, the uni joints on each end should be in the same plane. If not, the change of speed at each end will be fighting each other.
Have chopped out many uni joints before I was made aware of this. You will notice that this what a cardan joint attempts to do.
I know I have not made the above too clear, and would be happy to sort it if need be.

The hilux d/c will fit the front of a 80 but it is not from the front of the lux, from the rear tailshaft behind the centre bearing.
Have used one of these b4, cant remember what model lux for you to look for...i think it was a 90ish extra cab.
It needs shortening, but once on, those vibs disappear.

Andrew,
I managed to get hold of one yesterday.i got driveline to chop and weld the new d/c onto the driveshaft. Hopefully the noise will dissapear.
It wasn't a dear conversion either. I was expecting to pay a heap for it.
Thanks
