My son recently purchased a late model s/hand Range Rover , went on trip to Exmouth , got somewhere between Geraldton & Canarvon and suspension was a bit jolted going over a cattle grid and any speed over 70kph caused the vehicle to bounce all over the road , rang mechanic in Canarvon , no can do , rang dealer in Geraldton , not able to help , so rang original seller of vehicle in Perth who arranged to meet my son somewhere tween Perth & Geraldton , mechanic pugged his computer into computerised suspension , was fixed in 10 minutes !!!
Now not saying the R/R is a crap vehicle but just imagine this happening way out woop woop . Guess this could happen to any modern 4WD with their electronic fuel injection etc
Scary isn't it ?!

We had a range rover away with us a few years ago.
The battery went flat and the thing started shutting down and
the doors locked and wouldnt open because they were on remote.
We rang range rover on the sat phone and they said they would send a service technition asap wich was very good of them.
Only problem we were on our private property on the east coast of the cape about 200 k south east of coen and they were in melbourne.

All the best
Eric
Take it easy and keep it open for our kids

Well we were able to get the bonnet open and trickle charge the battery.
It was amazing the thing came back to life.

all the best

Reminds me of the one I fitted a Codan HF into a while back. It was brand new, delivered to me from the dealer, the air suspension constantly levelled the vehicle even when it was parked, locked with the keys out so the battery was soon flat, obviously a fault. To stop it I disconnected the battery, bad move took three days to get it all to sort of work again, new computer and I won't go into what happened when you tried to use (transmit) the Codan while on the move. The RF interference caused havoc!!!

Moral of the story - Don't ever buy a Range Rover for trips to remote areas

I remember when the Nissan Pintara came on to the market the Dept of Aviation Radio Tech's in Darwin bought 10 station wagons from the dealer.

Then they installed HF Radios in each one. When using a certain frequency the HF transmitter used to cause something to blow in the cars' computer bringing forward motion to a grinding halt.

I do believe that in the end the vehicles were traded in again as there was no solution to the problem.

We saw one in Kununurra in 1996 which had been driven very slowly for a few hundred kms with its air suspension sitting on the bump stops. The local Land Rover man had the computer for it, but said it looked like it was going to have to be trucked to Darwin. It was almost brand new.

We were in the same workshop with an 83 RR that had stripped the starter pinion and the flywheel as well as stuffed various other parts in the process. Cost us about $3k and 10 days.

I agree, there are better outback vehicles, but now, they all have computerised injections and such - probably not the wise way to go.
