After receiving posts re the price I was charged for my 9500 lb winch, I checked the Repco Dogalog and rang the local store. "Yes sir the price for the 9500 lb winch is $699." "Don't you have one for $499" "Yes sir but that is only a 6000 lb"
Vince races out side to check. It's a 9500 lb so the bargain I thought I got was now MUCH better.Used my $100 hush money from Repco plus saved $200.
There may be such a thing as Kama ! Could not get a $100 DVD but saved $300.
Thanks for everyone who offered advice re the battery to run the winch.

Thanks for that. Good advice re the 2 cranking batteries. I will look at it again when the deep cycle needs replacing ( along time I hope as it's only 3 mths old)
I have always been against power
winches in the past as my only experiences were with PTO units on army trucks, & the only time i needed to use one, I was in 1.5 mt of
water in a MK3 with no motor. Winch No use so I see your point about a flat battery.
Thanks
Vince

Mate , whack the DC onto the camper and fit another cranker under the bonnet ;)
Yeah , look , I dont profess to be an expert , but , not being able to fit dual batteries to my 4.5 Patrol , I had a decent look into how to go about fitting a winch and running off a single battery.
It would work , but , you NEED the motor running , and if you cant . . . why have the winch in the first place . . . you know what I mean.
Probably just need to look at the situations you are likely to use it in ?
Water ?
Steep Hills ?
Rocks ?
etc.
If you dont venture near Mud or
Water , then quite possibly , keeping the motor running wont be an issue.
