Gday all,,Back on the forum again after allmost two years living in a caravan with the computer in storage with all the rest of our gear. Have just done the 40,000K service on our Navara STR and the tyres are about ready for a change as they are the originals from new. Went in to a couple of the local tyre places and got prices etc one recomended Hankook the other Perrelli (not sure of the spelling). I am told there is not a lot available in 255/70R16 range. Anyone who has had experience with the above tyres, comments would be appreciated.

My experience with Hankkok Z36 AT was far from good.
Quiet & smooth on the blacktop, but VERY vulnerable in the sidewalls off road.
After removing them from the vehicle & fitting to the CT, same problems!

I recommend BF Goodrich which do make the ATko in 255/70 R16.
They are a little exy but IMHO worth the expense.
Anyway check them out.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Nav, I think the Pirelli's are mainly a road tyre which are soft on the side wall too. You could consider Toyo who probably make a 255/70R16 as I have 265/70R16 on my truck. Have only done 15,000k's on them and so far so good. A lot of tyres seem to loose their edge over the last half of their wear life and are more prone to punctures during this time.

R you happy with the Pro-Formance you got from the original tyres, If yes why change to a different brand you could get burned.

If not then maybe look at going up a size to a more well know 4WD tyre brand.

A friend has Pirelli’s AT on his Jeep Wangler has had no problems, they have about 12,000 on them at the most, my Cooper AT’s at 25,000 still look meatier and look like a more solid tyre even with the higher mileage and more abuse.

Also a Friend had 33-inch Hankook MT’s on his last Land cruiser and showed these tyres no mercy; as in Tyre pressure what’s that, now let’s go climb that sharp rocky hill!! Kind of abuse and had 0 problems. Maybe he was just lucky but.

Why not change to a slightly more common tyre like a 265/70? Maybe cheaper also.

Hi Nav 8,

I just did the same with my ST-R.

I settled on a Dunlop AT1 tyre size 265/70/R16

Bigger tyre but heaps cheaper than standard size

Speedo is out by only a fraction, and rides well.

Hope this helps

Hi Nav 8,

When the speedo reads 60kmh, the gps says 62kmh

I have not tested at 100kmh yet
