Having joined the ranks of those disgusted with dealer services I'm going to do the minor services myself, though the wife has bitter memories of floods of oil on the garage floor a couple of years ago....

Can someone tell me if Castrol GTX 15W 40 (B3/A3) is ok for a 2002 Prado diesel that lives in Brisbane?

Thanks, Fester.

Yes but I would like to see you talk to Castrol, because I suspect you may find a better oil, without theexpense og going semi synthetic.

Go to the Castrol website and download a list of the correct oils for your model there.

I think you will find it is supposed to run 10w/30 oil but in my 2005 Prado I run 10w/40 semi synthetic.
It is good stuff.
You won't go wrong with 15/40 but can get better.

There are many happy Forum members who run Caltex Delo 400 or Shell Rimula X in their Turbo Diesel's.

From the Caltex Website:

Land Cruiser Prado KZJ95, 3.0 Litre 1KZ-TE Diesel, 4x4 (2000-2003)

DELO 400 MULTIGRADE
Capacity 7.0* Litres

You can pick it up in 10L drums from SEQ Fuels who have a few outlets around town.

Just a suggestion.

Hi Fester I run PENRITE DIESEL OIL IN MY 2004 T/D triton and have run it in all my prevous diesels for the last 12 yrs it is reasonable priced and is very good.
I used to work in an engine reco shop and penrite oil always seemed to make the engines last longer, i dare say that other well known brands are equal these days but if on a good thing stick to it!

When I had my last foubie (a Toyota Bundera 2.4 litre petrol model) I decided to run Shell Helix oil in it as all the hype was saying that the NEW TECHNOLOGY was so much better than the fosilised oils........... and the result was ...... wait for it!!!!

The motor was basically stuffed within about 4 months....... I had smoke and rattles and rough idling and bugger all power in next to no time.... ended up selling the car off as it was going to cost more to fix it and it was not really big enough for my family purposes any longer anyway..... I guess it cost me about $3000 - $4000 in the sale price as the pre purchase inspection was scathing of the motor... The rest of the car was nearly perfect!!

I am someone who will change oil regularly and will do the filters at the same time and not run the fuel out etc etc but that all added to naught and whether something else caused it or not I can't say but I point my finger squarely at the oil...

Needless to say that I will never use a synthetic oil again as long as I can avoid it!

Cheers
