Regarding external antennas for CDMA phone via patch lead, on Landcruiser and on caravan, are the ones (magnetic or gutter say 5db) sold by Ebay shops satisfactory or is the much higher cost of ones such as RFI or GMA justified for winter caravan travelling use.

G'Day Billv,

Buy an RFI 1795 and a patch lead, the leads are available through EBAY for around $15

Hope this helps

I found mine was a complete waste of time (and money). I purchased a through the window type antenna for my Nokia 6225 and it did absolutly zip. So im not convinced they are any better than the standard inbuilt Nokia antenna.

Hi Glenno,

The on glass mobile phone ant's do work, get out of town a bit, unscrew the cable from inside capacidence plate and see your signal bar decrease. Myn deffinatly works.

I have a 6230i and the through glass antenna on one car which helps a little but the external ZCG Scalar really makes a difference on the other. It's often the difference between being able to make a call and not.

Stick with the brand name- at least you will have a warranty then if it shakes itself to pieces somewhere. Try and get a higher gain than 5db. A low gain makes a nice round radiating pattern around the aerial (ideal for the city) whereas a high gain is closer to the ground but much further reaching (ideal for rural areas).

Another option is to fork out the extra $15 or so and get a dual band one that will handle GSM as well as CDMA so you dont have to replace it if you change phones later.
