DARREN
GPS guru's, (I am a complete novice)
I am looking at purchasing a 2nd hand Magellan that was originally purchased in USA. A mate has steel level mapping CD that I can use but could you please advise me what I need to know/do/check or whatever as I recall there are issues re the Australian basemap.
Thanks in advance
Darren

thanks Oleg, very handy! just downloaded FAQ manuel which said you can save a basemap over the previous one, do you know if I can copy one off my mates unit or is this something I am going to have to buy?

you can download the basemap from your mate's GPS using the instructions on one of the Yahoo groups websites but it is fairly complex. You can then use the magup.exe utility to upload the downloaded Oz basemap (8 MB) to your GPS. You would probably update the firmware at the same time. The firmware update, and magup utility are available at www.magellangps.com
How much are you paying for the used Meriplat?

thanks Bob, looks like the start of a steep learning curve here :-)
price not yet agreed but one has come up and I like the idea of accessing mates mapping CD, plus he is pretty happy with his unit. price not agreed yet.
