Hi all, first time post and after some advice on new shoes for my 100 series (Tojo Royale 16" rims). Mate has Coopers and swears by them but I was thinking of gettin some BFG A/Ts. Not sure of what size to suit - been told to get the 285s over the smaller size (extra $$ though!). Any advice on what would suit me best -currently do the 80/20 road/off road mix?

Also looking to do a suspension upgrade to the Bluemax foam shocks and springs - anyone currently using this brand, any feedback appreciated. Cheers!

Gday Dekard05
I would go with 265/75 x 16 tyres. They make the speedo perfect, the price is right and there is many to choose from in the outback if something goes wrong.
I can't comment on the suspension as I have only used and fitted King and Lovells.
The King and Koni set up seems to work well on the cruisers.

Thanks 120scruiser, a lot of the posts seem to recommend the Konis - about what price would I be looking at for an upgrade (and what distributor)?

You are better off going in to a dealer and talking to them.
Top Performance in Victoria are the importers.
There are a couple of part numbers to suit yours. You could go with 82 series or the new big ones. The 92 series are the big ones but there is the 90 series as well.
It just depends on how much you want to spend.

Hey i run the BFG AT's on my 100 Series in the 285/75/R17 and so far have done 24,000k on them and they have performed very welll for me.

Probably do 90/10 road off road, but that 10% i do do they make a very large difference as are much better tread etc and also 2" bigger than standard.

I am currently running the OME suspension upgrade.

Thanks Mark, how do you find the road noise on those suckers? Mainly do sand driving so may be well suited for the beach. Was just worried about the size - don't want too hard core - just something that will perform with minimal fuss! Hard to judge what they will look like as they are never in stock and must be ordered (!!).

I dont notice any road noise hardly at all, if i put the window down its to hear the sound of the exhaust after changing it over, not the tyres.

If windows are up, stereo on and a/c dont hear a thing from them.

Where are you located, if Melbourne ARB Northern in Thomastown often have them in stock and where the best value i could get them at.

evenin dekard05,
i run bfg at's on my patrol, they're quit as anything, they're a good tyre for road/sand. they fill up in mud, but for your use they sound perfect. i run 265/75r16's at the moment and the speedo on my patrol is spot on, but i'm considering 285/75's when its time to change.

can't comment on suspension...
does anybody use tough dog adjustable? are they worth the money? how do they compare to rancho 9000x???

If you can legally upgrade to the 285/75 R16 I would do it. I upgraded from 265/70 R16 on my Patrol when I was living in WA, but when I moved to SA have been told that they are illegal, i.e. if your involved in an accident with them on and they are illegal in your state the insurance company may not pay up. Anyway I think they are great, it works out to a 1 inch lift, true lift (even the diffs are 1 inch higher). The bigger tyress mean that the engine is running slower at a given speed, this made no difference to fuel consumption on my vehicle but it may improve fuel consumption of the 6cyl vehicles as they tend to be slower running higher torque engines, but don't forget that they do throw the speedo out by 2-3km/h when calculating fuel consumption. As for true off-road tyres v's A/T's unless you spend more than 50% of your time off-road I would go with the A/T's, they run quieter and smoother on road, will generally last longer on the blacktop, and in all the off-roading I have done with BFG A/T, Bridgestone Dueller AT 693's & 694's, there are maybe only two or three situations where M/T's may have prevented me from getting bogged. Hope this helps

If you dont mind the small loss of power in going to the 285"s, i would much prefer the extra ground clearance of the bigger tyre. Also the coopers are a good tyre, but i have always ran bfg and found them excellent.
