Have decided to fit King Springs to my NP DID .HHD Front HD rear. Can't decide weather to fit Konis or Bilstien I would like to have a comfortable ride rather than harsh. The vehicle is used 90% onroad 10% off-road. I’ve been told Koni's are adjustable (remove strut for vehicle on front) and Bilstien have multiple circlip adjustments on front only.Koin's are oil and Bilstien are gas. Your comments on these two shock's for this vehicle greatly appreciated

G'day Marcas. I have just fitted King Springs and Koni's to my GU III patrol and could not be happier with the ride and handling improvement.

I don't know if the spring rates are consistant between various models, but the HD's in mine will be more than strong enough to carry a full load in the vehicle, EVERYWHERE! They are nice and firm, without being harsh.

The Koni's were recommended to me by King Springs as being the perfect match to their springs and I fully endorse there recommendation.

It may come back to the old single tube (Bilstein)/double tube (Koni) debate, but I would now argue that the "old" simple hydraulic shock is still the best way to go for outback touring rigs, but each top their own.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Have heavier king springs on my pajero.

After trying many makes, have konis.
Never tried bilstiens.

But have found with other shocks that they seem to be too firm on bump with HD springs. Seem to stiffen up the ride as well as the springs. The konis seem to be more rebound orientated to control the springs, and softer on the bump, which gives a better ride.

FWIW I've used both Bilstien and Koni in various applications over the years and find both are excellent shocks. The conclusion I've come to is that Bilstien work best on independent set-ups and Koni best on beam axles. The Bilstien have speed sensitive self adjustable valving that copes better with high frequency bumps generated by idependent designs. Koni are indeed more rebound oriented and this works well where you have quite a lot of unsprung weight. I'd go with the Bilstiens here.

Markcas,
Have fitted Kings on my NM. Used the same ones you're talking about but find the fronts a bit too heavy. Do you have a winch fitted? If not I'd back off one level on the front. The rears are great.
I left the standard shocks on for the time being. Still work fine. By all reports on the Pajero forum the Bilstiens give the more comfortable ride.

Cheers....

Mines an NM with a Smartbar and duel batteries, so not too heavy. I just feel the new springs are too stiff on bump. For example, it used to ride over the speed bumps in our carpark like they were'nt there but now it really thumps hard.
