LPG is the current topic with fuel prices at present and fuel companies making a windfall.
Has anyone had the new vapour LPG system fitted which is said to give better fuel ecomomy and performance than petrol??????
Doe anyone have an 8.1 litre efi petrol converted to LPG and if so are you happy with it and was it the vapour system and who did the installation?
Cheers,
Cliff

8.1 litre EFI petrol GMC/Chev 3500 Sierra 2002.
It is ideal for our slide on and towing a reasonable size boat.
But as you say l need gas now we are paying the oil companies top dogs super and bonus.

Does anyone, beside you, have an 8.1 litre efi petrol engine??
There is a system shown on new inventors where the fuel injector is replaced with a gas injector.
Benefits are supposedly better economy, no backfiring (a big problem with efi lpg), and uses the same computer as petrol.
I run LPG and find it
well worth the effort.
The only problem I have is I cannot use a "Jerry can".

Hi Techie,
can you give me more details on the gas injector.
Surely there are lots of vechiles in US in our size range that have converted to LPG.
I have tried email a few but just dont get a response.
Thanks.

Hi Snailbait,
A quick calculation on current petrol and what we may get from LPG is .27 to .29 cents a km petrol and .15 cents a km on LPG allowing for a 10% increase in consumption.
Hense looking for someone that has converted an engine this size.
Thanks

8.1 litre, Geez
Cliff lets get serious, that's only a baby. That only equates to about 494 cubes. I built a custom alloy radiator for a guy we know at work with an LPG only 34 Ford street rod with a supercharged 502 cube crate motor and now he's gone really serious. His next project, again one I have to build a custom radiator for is a 32 roadster with a 572 cube (9.377 litres) crate motor. (out of the box from factory 620 bhp) but then he's running an 871 blower on top with LPG again. Unfortunately not sequential, he used twin 425 Impco mixers on his 502 but isn't sure if they'll flow enough for his monster 572.
Regards Andrew.

Hi awill4x4,
I know there are alot of much larger engines but finding the right person to do an LPG conversion and using the new vapour system is like looking for speck of gold in the
Simpson Desert.
Can you recommend someone?
Cheers and thanks

More info can be found
here
their web site is here
I do not know how
well this works - I figure it is better than a separate mixer on injection engines with its inherent "backfire probs"

Techie, I think that this sytem is a gas only system as it replaces the the petrol fuel injectors for the dedicated LPG ones he supplies, so we lose the benefit of dual fuel.

You didn't say you wanted dual fuel!
try calling
Impco on 02 9699 7150 or
Sprint on 02 9709 8966
They both do LPG systems.
Impco uses a mixer based on the mini sidedraft SU (dashpot) carby.
The sprint is more complicated with different "jets".
Or try LPGAust - the governing body.

Cliff, Whereabouts are you? The guy next door to us at work (Carrum Downs
Melbourne) specialises in LPG and does some pretty tricky installs. He's had a few vehicles in with the new sequential LPG injection on his dyno for tuning purposes. These sequential kits are being developed by Vic Autogas Supplies for both aftermarket and OEM. The guy next door (Mike) is running a 460 big block running on LPG only in a chopped 60's F100. His is not injected though, he's using a 425 mixer I think.
Mikes company is called Autogas Connection and his phone number is (03)97751331
Tell him Andrew from next door at D&F Racing Products said to give him a call.
Regards Andrew.

Thanks Andrew,
We have an 8.1 litre EFI petrol GMC/Chev 3500 Sierra 2002 duelly.
Also l have heard that there is a new vapour system being used in the US.
We carry about 1 to 1.5 tons hence the need for such a vechile and then when we can get away we have a slide on that weighs in a 1 ton.
I will be in
Melbourne in Febuary and l will can down.
I used to live down that way a few decades ago before heading to Mackay Qld
Thanks

Cliff, Mike next door said he'd talked to you about your situation. He's given me a name and phone number of someone in Qld who may be able to help you.
Mike said to call "Andy" at Sprint Gas in Qld. Their phone number is
07 32624822. Mike said "he's the only guy I have confidence in to do the work in Qld" and he is also doing some sequential LPG vapour installs.
Mike said, if you give him a call, "Tell him that Mike from Autogas Connection in Carrum Downs
Melbourne said to talk to you about LPG installs for your vehicle"
Regards Andrew.
