The dealer charge for window tint, rustproofing, extra soundproofing and paint protection is around $1750.

Worth it or not?

I bought 4 litres of Wax Type Product similar to Techtel from Supacheap with a 27 dollar degreasing gun and did the Rustproofing myself ,although 1 think 8 litres would have been better($40.00 per can). It came in a green tin.Septol product I think. Took me all day as taking off the wheels and all the Plastic underbody stuff takes time not to damage all the plastic screws. I didnt drill any holes.
I had a previous Pajero done and took it back 3 times and eventually I stayed with the car and showed the "Kid" where to spray but he didnt have any specialised gear to get into places like the chasis rails. That was "Ming"
never again.
As for the Paint treatment- well a friend has this and it cannot be polished with any vigore as it scuffs up and therefore makes getting rid of any bush scratches not easy to do. Bird Dropping on bonnet left for a couple of days now shows up like a big buffed area.
I think it depends on if your looking to go on trails etc or do you want your Car to look smick and has the resail with all the Rust Proof Stickers on it.I will be interested in other peoples opinion however. Thanks- Sorry to go on.

This is one of my pet hates - those bitching 'fillies' that you are steered to after signing the purchase agreement, who do their damndest to sell you the subject claptrap for $1750 plus when it only worth about 5% (if that) of that amount.

I have purchased a number of new vehicles over the last 15 years and tell the car salesman straight ou to his/her face, that if I have front/deal with the aftercare vultures in any way what so ever, then the deal is off.

Guess what, I am taken straight from the car selling desk to the deposit taking desk, bypassing those preying oxygen thieves.

Get your 100% series sprayed out thoroughly with fish oil. Stinks like S H I T for 3-4 weeks and the seagulls hand around, buy and spray your upholstery with scotchguard or similar type spray.

And there is a whole range of stuff to do your outer skin with. However all the car show dudes I know, now use the ENJO car mitt and plain water which I have switched to (sceptically I might add) and it does a great job.

Don't waste your $1,750.

Lucy, I'm trying hard to read between the lines and I am of the opinion that you don't entertain the idea of someone "adding value" to your car.
Had problems in the past have we?

Stop it! D-L

Fortunately I haven't been ripped off by these 'tea leafs'.

I guy I worked with for a zillion years purchased a Nissan Maxima via his neighbour who was/is a service manager with Nissan.

It was a low Kms 2yr old vehicle purchased for the trade price (Great deal)

It just gets better.

He enquires about this 'ming' treatment of the duco and upholstery etc., however is a bit concerned about the price.

Don't you worry about that says the Nissan Neighbour, I'll arrange for the supplier/provider of same to come around to your house on a pre arranged weekend and for $50 for the product used and a 'slab' everyone will be happy.

This all happened along a sausage sizzle after the application of the 'secret ming stuff'.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to get the drift that something is 'crook in Tallarook' with these dealer 'special deals' on this stuff.

Hi ev700
My mate owned a car detailing shop about 4 yrs ago also did end rusting and protective coatings, he charged toyota $140 to end rust a car .He said it cost him nearly $80 .Them toyota got a quote from someone else for$120, mate said that they would not be able to do the job properly for that price ,they would have to rush the job and cut corners or skimp on the chemicals.
So save some money an cut toyota out and go straight to the supplier, some you can do yourself if you to as others have said .

G'Day. I have just signed up for a lovley brand new 4.2 GU and same same.. dealer quoted a "deal" $1785 for Rust/Paint Material protection and window tint. Said thanks I'd ring around.. have found Tint-a-car will do it with lifetime warranty for half the dealer price.. have decided to only do electronic rust proof and window tint though 'cause I recon a god wax a couple of times a year and washing when it's dirty is the best paint protection I can get.. as for the vinyl etc.. why????

Thanks everyone.

Took the advice given and got independent quotes and the dearest is half the dealer's price.

Now the dealer will also lose the trade for bullbars, towbar etc.

As a follow on from your experience, when I purchased my 2000 GU patrol in 2003, the car yard said that the window tint was too dark, and by law they had to remove it, and guess what, they could do a SPECIAL PRICE on having new tinting put on !!!!!

I said don't worry about it, I'll take the car as it is, but they said they could not sell it to me because the tint was too dark and was illegal, to which I said "that is your problem as you should not have the car on display if it is illegal. But they wouldn't budge, so I walked out.

The next day I walked back in, made a silly offer, which they accepted and I agreed to pay for new window tint. I still came out better than I though I was going to, but i wonder how many ppl they try that one on ???????????
