Hi Norm,
Yes, did the OTL in the lux, late in the season
water crossings are simple. Also did Cape Flattery and Cape Melvile.

David,
Which way did you go to
Cape Melville? 4 years ago I went there via Lakefield/Kalpower and whilst that was OK I was wondering what the road through Hopevale is like and/or if it is better coming from
Laura over the developmental road so fueling up at Musgrave?
Kind regards

Hi Beatit,
We bypassed
Hope Vale, and traveled the Starcke track to Wakooka then onto
Bathurst Bay and Cap Melvile.
The track was a great adventure, tight through the trees, bull dust, rough, sharp
creek crossings. If taking a trailer i would advise good
suspension and a good flexible hitch.
The Development road option would be allot easyer.

Thanks David,
We are planning a trip for next year just to
Cape Melville for a couple of weeks. It certainly is a great place and we weren't there long enough (only a day trip from Kalpower). Where abouts did you
camp? And how long did it take you via Starcke?
Our trailer ia a veteran and has already seen a lot of the Cape,
Kimberley and most recently the
Simpson Desert.
Kind regards

Hi Beatit,
It's a two day trip, an overnight stay on the Jeannie River.
Nice flat
camp site on the northern side of the river.
Dave.

Good on yer David B..Great to hear you and the 'Lux performed to exp..I am going to (gotta) do it again next year,as we did it in '89 when we had to build a raft to cross Wenlock River after 8 month "wet",so, can't wait to see the concrete, prestressed bridge structure in place there, over that river..Lucky you (altho, they say,you make your own luck) Have fun, enjoy the Hilux,RockyOne!MPG:6!

I have just got back myself (last 3 weeks) also. I found that the four wheeling was nothing... I didn't do gunshot as I had the trailer on and decided it was better to go around but went and watched one of the other cars in our group go over and then back tracked around the bypass.
I was surprised how little four wheeling is required to be honest.. the OTL is a breeze.. One of the worst roads was the southern bypass out to
captain billy landing.. not for four wheeling but just because it has not been upgraded for donkeys and there are severe wash outs etc that will catch you unaware if you are not careful.
The corrugations do live up to their name though.. very testing on the vehicle... get all your
suspension rubbers changed (not with polyurethane ones either) before you leave or at least have a decent supply of spares with you...
I want to go back and tow a boat to either
Weipa or Seisa for a few weeks of fishing... I think next time I will just go straight up the Developmental Road and get there and fish..........
Cheers

Also just returned from the Cape. Manged the Starke track from Endeavour Falls (30km from
Cooktown and a great place to
camp) to
Cape Melville in a longish but not uncomfortable day. The
camp on the Jeannie looks a bit dry and unpleasant in the late dry season.
