I heard that the canyon was closed today so I thought I would go and have a look after work.

Before I go on I must say that for about 20 minutes today it really, really poured down.

When I got to the creek crossing there were queues of vehicles stopped because of the creek flowing across the road. There were about 50 people on the creeks banks. I thought you ripper, time to see if the cruiser can swim. I drove through the creek and the level of the water was halfway across the windscreen, but she kept on going. She leaked a bit and my shoes got soaked. You should have seen all the camera flashes.

I did the right aussie thing and took a few people across and back. I should have charged them $10 a ride, I would have cleaned up. I left when the level got down to 55cm.

It's amazing how many people had vehicles that could have easily gone through but did not for one reason or another.

What a fun afternoon!

Cheers

yes - you have to be there at the right time. This morning the creek was down to a slow trickle

Glad you had fun but if it was a choice between waiting a few hours while playing in the creek and risking crap i would wait 2 hours anyday. Have you checked your oils?? It costs at least 50 bucks for diff and gearbox oil changes. the last oil change in my 75 showed water in the front diff and the only crossing of significance was at King edward in the Kimberly . first rule of 4bying is do you have to
now after i have chucked a wet blanket on stuff was it fun ferrying 22 yo blonde dutch backpackers accross??!!

That reminded me of the story about the dutch boy with his finger in the dyke.

Davoe,

I'll put her on the hoist this afternoon and have a thorough look.

And yes - living in a touristy area does have its advantages :)
