Alan,

As far as I know, you cannot post an image direct from your computer to a forum thread - unlike some other 4wd sites.

How this site works was written at the bottom of the text entry box where you entered your question. There is some code
img src="http://domain.com/image_path" with pointy brackets around it.

This tells me the image you want to post needs to be on a website somewhere already and you are posting a link to it. If this is the case, copy the website address and paste it into the text of your message, replacing only http://domain.com/image_path in the code with the website address.

For members, we can add a picture from our gallery of 6 already loaded onto the site. !MPG:7! in addition to our signature image below.

Not quite as other sites work, but that's how it is.

Tim, same thing with me. I have been able to upload one pic to my gallery but none others. No matter how much changing around I do to try and make them a smaller file size they will not upload. Even the one in my gallery, which isn't even a good photo, won't upload to my signature. Not having a go at you, just venting my spleen.

Hi Muzzgit,

If you email us with your details and what is happening, we will be able find out what is going wrong and help you. You can email me on Juliana@ExplorOz.com and I will help you.

To get a photo in your signature, you need to load a photo into your rig section. You then need to put some text in the signature box (or a space if you don't want any text beside your photo). This can all be done from your members home page under My Rig for the rig pics and My Profile for the signature text. Your rig pic will then automatically appear at the end of every post in the forum.

For gallery pics the photos must be under 50k. The dimensions don't generally matter, of course the smaller the image, the smaller the bytes. We suggest you have it about 500pixels high or wide and this will generally get it to about 50k.

Hope this helps,
Regards,
Juliana

Ask him if he is a member of any of the other FREE web forums that you can post a photo on like, Overlander, outerlimits, australia4wd, Pajero forum, AULRO, LLCOOL and so on, heaps of them out there he might be a member of one of them, also these forums have TECH sections for anyone who needs technical help.

And easier to navigate too.

Baz,

If you don't like the way we do it then do not use our system. If we get requests to fix or change things we do funny I do not remember seeing a request for this from you.

Members get access to post pics as it is indicative of a positve contribution to the operation of the system.

As for a tech section it is well known that you simply use the feedback system or email info@exploroz.com and your issues and problems will be addressed.

Redback I visit some of the forums you have mentioned as it is more exciting than work but for good info uninterupted (well mostly) by clowns this one is winner hands down.
The problem with other forums is the one with the most recent response stays at the top and just gets more crap more offtrack and often argumentative.
I have posted many times on here and more often than not by the time it is halfway down the page your Q is well and truly answerd. Posts on here that stir up crap quickly go onto page 2 and are over rather than stay at the top just gathering crap

Also the fact that resizing a photo to some is not easy, where as on the other sites there is no need to resize as it is done automaticly when you start an album in the gallery.

Remember David not everyone is good on a computer, for sum it is very hard and alot don't have all the latest wiz bang programs.

Sorry for the hi jack but can anyone tell me how to simply reduce photos to about 50k? I've done it before by just right clicking on the photos in my pictures and clicking on create thumbnail or something along those lines. Went to do it the other day and I'm stuffed if I can find the option again.

Thanks for any help

Matt,

I wrote a huge reply and then I hit the wrong button and lost it. I will start again maybe a little smaller this time.

What picture program are you using?

Basically to resize a pic from digital camera or scanner is a simple matter of reducing the height/width of the image. Newer (higher mega pixel) cameras store files of around 3000x2000pixels and 2-5MB. A computer monitor displays 72dpi (dots per inch -same as pixels per inch) so a full sized camera image would need a computer monitor aroubd 42x28 inches to display it. So when a pic is to be used and only viewed on a computer monitor it may as well be reduced in physical height/width. A good number is 500 pixels (around 7 inches of screen space). So if your pic is landscape make the width 500 if portrait make the height 500 and let the image program adjust the other dimension for you. Then save the reduced picture as .jpg (if you have the option set the compression to 20%). Using these techniques you will end up with a pic of around 500x380pixels that is around 20-45KB.

I hope this helps - I will try to get a FAQ written for this. Let us know how you go.

David,
Thanks for the detailed response, will follow your instructions and see how I go. Shame I can't find the simple way in windows though, it was literally right click, select the option and done!

I think a FAQ would be great for this topic,

Thanks again,
Matt
