Hi
I recently bought a 1997 2.8 Patrol LWB.
(I have been lurking around here looking for some tips for some time and gathered the 4.2 would be better but I gave up waiting for a 4.2 and a good 1 owner (54,000 mile) 2.8 came up so I bought it)
I have recenty fitted 285x75x16 tyres and have some OME springs (2 inch lift) waiting to be fitted. My concern at the moment is that the tyres look way too big - they fill the wheel arch almost completely. I rekon the OME kit will give more than a 2 inch lift as the stock springs seem to have sagged a little. Even so, will the 285s look OK with the lift? What I am really after is a picture of 285s on a Patrol of my year. Can anyone post a pic or offer an opinion as to whether I am going to be happy with the outcome once the lift is done?
Cheers, Jim

I have a 2000 GU Patrol, 2" lift and 285/75*16 MTRs . The tyres look spot on with the lift. I haven't worked out how to post a photo yet but keep checking. A mate lifted his GU before fitting the bigger tyres- made it look like a rollerskate!
I fitted my tyres before the lift- I know what you mean about filling the guards.

Has anyone taken off the 'extra' rubber guards that stick out? I haven't taken a close look at them yet but it looks like it might be possible but the mud flaps would come off at the same time.

Just keep in mind that the higher you lift your 4x4,,,, the closer the front
wheels will get to your mudflaps...

If you remove the flairs your tires will stick out and your car will be unroadworthy.
you can put spacers on your control arms to space the
wheels forward, but I run 35's on
mine in the bush, and they dont hit the flaps.
YMMV.
PS. GQ from 88 till 97 will all look the same, as they are.. even the MQ should look similar.
