Engel and Waeco are both pretty dodgy. Much better drinking warm beer and eating green steak.

hmmm you probably got the hint by now that this debate has been done to death...
Engel is the more reliable but Waeco is better value for money. (ducking for cover now lol.....someone had to start it!)

wato35 don't blame yourself your new to the site, we all had a first day, so don't let the old hands give you a hard time. To the left of your screen there's a
site search box, type in your query there and you'll get a mass of info.
Cheers

wato35,
like the other's have said, it's been done to death, as a former member here often says, they both keeps things cold, I've got two waeco's both are great and I have no complaints, it comes down to personal preference I guess.
cheers

Totall agree flappa. Evakool with their fibreglass box and heaps of insulation and Danfoss compressor (same as Waeco) is the way to go. Much, much lighter than the Engel too.

Get a Evakool 60lt fridge/freezer. Not a big footprint like the huge 60lt Engel
Engel 40lt is too deep to find things and Waeco are crap

I have a 60ltr Waeco, the equivalent Engel was about another $400 more. Engel have a longer standing name, and if your firdge is going to see some rough treatment then the Engel is sturdier. But if it is just going to ride around in the back of a Wagon then save yourself some money and buy a Waeco. I spoke to a couple of small refrigeration mechanics when I was shopping around for
mine and both reckoned the inner workings of the Waeco was superior to the Engel. Hope this helps.

Don't know, but since the company was founded in 1974 you never never know. Don't confuse it with the "recent" startup in OZ :)

Not many 30+ year old Japanese cars out there either.
Using your logic, Ed. C., means the current Japanese cars are no good.
Who the hell wants a 30 year old fridge that _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx a massive current anyway?
In my opinion, better to buy an EVAKool, Bushman, or Autofridge.

Relaibility wise they're probably pretty similar, value for money wise, the Waeco is clearly the best fridge on the market.
I bought my 50L Waeco a couple of years ago for $990 which included a cover, thermometer & one of those 6 can, 12v cooler thingies.
My FIL just bought a 60L Waeco with cover for $990 - pretty hard to beat that
