I have a 2001 auto patrol. The auto was serviced about 1000km ago and the car has done 100,000. It drives very well but when you stop the car and switch it off a transmission oil leek occurs at the top of the passenger side wheel arch and drips down the inside of the guard onto the mud flap. After much searching as the leak is know where near any transmission or power stearing lines and both levels are about what they should be (Not a major leak) I took the plastic guard off the underneath the guard and located what appear to be three small pipes coming out of the engine bay through a rubber grummet just near the air filter intake . One was traced back to the front diff and two back to the top of the transmission. They appear to be breather pipes. There are obvious signs of transmission oil near them. (It must be pumping some oil out) Has anyone had the problem or suggest what it may be. As I said the auto has not long been serviced and drives well.

I take it the pipes are not connected onto anything I.E are open at the end and not running to any transmission cooler>. (Do they have some kind of check valve/ filter on them to stop Dirt flowing back down the pipe.

Where is the Fluid most likely coming from out the top, Down near the transmission or along the line somewhere?

The pipes are open, nothing on the end like any type of valve, I am sure that the fluid is coming out of them.

I traced the cooler pipes nothing to do with them. As well as the power steering pipes. I am sure that they are breather pipes for the transmission. I have a Gregorys manual and nothing is mentioned about these pipes.

David
If this has only happened after the service have you checked to see if they overfilled the transmission expansion may be forcing the excess fluid out
just a guess but worth a try, i find they tend to overfill mine slightly but have not had a problem
the ends of the breathers are normally open i have fitted a small plastic fuel filter to the end to stop dirt geting in

David,

Those pipes are the transmition breather pipes, front diff, transfer case and gearbox which come with extensions from factory.
First thing you have to do is identify which one is leaking, I assume you must have worked out it is the auto...
If it is, check that (as previoulsy mentioned) they may have overfilled the gearbox which if so if slightly, it causes the oil to foam up and be driven up the breather if this is happening, the pump can also be starved of oil and damage can occur.

Hi David,

As mentioned above, the pipes inside LH guard are the breather pipes for diffs and transfer case. The transfer case on the Patrol is filled with ATF, so that may be the fluid that is leaking.

Hugh

Thanks again for all of your advice, I'll take it back to the mechanic who did the service and see what they say.
