For some reason I can't post a reply in the section where you asked about the Yokohama tyres - so here goes and I hope you get it. The Geolanders II+ are a great tyre in terms of getting no wobble in the front end of the patrol but they are dogs off road - to soft in the side walls for my liking and got staked very easily. However, if you are spending lots of time on the bitumen they are great. Personally I would consider the 694 duellers as a good compromise for the amount of off road work you do.
Sorry for the delay in responding but I just got back home after a month on the road - Flinders, Big/Little Deserts and the Great Ocean Road.

Cheers
Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the reply.

I figured you must have been travelling as I hadn't seen any other posts/replys from you. The trip you've just done sounds great. Certainly a variety of terrain and a great time of year to be touring.

I'm still considering tyre selection, so your comments on the Yoko's is timely. I've looked at the D694 duellers and they are certainly an option. Must say that I am still leaning toward Coopers. I went around to Captain's place last weekend and had a drive in his GU with STs and was amazed at how quiet they were - really was expecting them to hum a lot but they were pretty good. At 50,000km they still had plenty of tread left, no damage and no sign of wheel wobble. The new ATRs are meant to be vary quiet and apparently balance up very well.

I'm not in too much hurry as the D693s fitted have adequate tread - just want new tyres before XMAS holidays. We are travelling over to SA after XMAS and spending ~ 1W on Kangaroo Island.

Regards,
Hugh
