Question: How to get a bit more clearance for a new LC TD 100series and get good rubber for moderate off-road use.

I thought I had this problem solved by adding 285X75X17 BFG ATs and by adding polyairs to the rear (better load carrying). The BFGs would have given a 1" lift which would have given me a bit more desired clearance.

However I have been advised that because the standard tyres are 275X65X17, the 285X75X17 tyres will be too oversize and not legal in Qld - hence possible insurance problems down the road.

I think I will have to accept the Coopers and wait for BFGs to catch up with a 275X65X17 tyre or similar down the track. At this stage the best alternative seems to be Cooper 265X70X17. These are a bit higher(slightly bigger diameter) but are 10mm or so narrower that the standard tyre.

So regrettably I am back to the original question: What is the best way to get a moderate but robust (and Qld legal) lift for the TD? I just do not want to get snagged as easily as the herd off road. I am also aware that the TD is nose heavy with the ARB steel bullbar (winch to be added in around a year;-))

Thanks in advance.

Yes I have joined lccol (Qld regional) but I should join the broad 100 group.

dont want to start debate on different set ups but i have following
tjm alloy bar t15 from memory-reason for choice
1.alloy 2. extra at least 20mm clearance at front(more on edges) compared to toyota genuine alloy and ecb alloy and tjm there is front bash plate supplied and also plate which covers exposed hoses on drivers side(think intercooler pipes?).
maybe arb steel better quality and similar extra clearance -didnt want steel so didnt look at them.
op lock h/d torsion(think tough dog) bars raised front 45mm from standard height-debate about how high can go without probs-i was advised 45mm at time so stuck with that-arb at time recommended 35mm and maybe now even lower.
rear king springs KTRR HDD or whatever the heaviest duty they have on website listing -tried 3 sets -have raised rear approx 60-70mm but when loaded come back to approx 40-50mm
koni adj shocks front and rear
have ironman rear bar and twin wheel carrier and only use one side which also has jerry can holder which i use for water
ps can prob gather i have a fair bit of weight on board
my measurements are from centre of centre cap to bottom of guard
285/75/16 bfg m/t add extra height
cheers

Thanks for all of the detail, which I will keep for referral.
