Hello All
Has anyone out there fitted a
Snorkel to their Nissan 3.0lt ITD, Prado or other small modern diesel? Did it improve fuel consumption (ie more cooler air to the engine improving efficiency), no change, or worsen fuel consumption (ie increased aerodynamic drag)? Actual experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2.8 TD GU.. and it has a
snorkel.. I can't offer a comparison as it has always been on the car as long as I have owned it, but my opinion for what it's worth is that it could only enhance performance.. in that it takes the cleaner and cooler air in from
well above the road.. especially if like so many of our 4WD's they get into the traffic situations.. Deisels NEED clean air much more than a petrol.. the cleaner and cooler the air is the better for em.. as far as wind resistance goes... I'm not an aeronautical enginerr but am in the Air Force and unless you are talking about signifigant speeds the difference would be negligible, especially as they are mounted up against the body of the vehicle anyway.. I would say go right ahead.. it will only help.. if you can percieve a loss in performance from the wind resistnce you shouldprobably find a job replacing some pretty sensitive instruments..

I made one for my (our) Navara out of 3" exhaust tubing and bought a Donaldson air ram top piece similar to the Safari. It has made no noticeable difference in performance or fuel consumption. The only negative is with the passenger window down, a lot of engine noise is heard roaring thru the intake. Top speed is still 160 kph, same as it was before. Rus.

I fitted one to a Nissan Terrano 2, 2.7 TDI, fuel consumption increased, albeit only marginally, also no perceptible improvement in performance.

I have fitted one, didnt make a lot of difference fuel wise,
water crossing wise huge difference and theres also a bit more noise in the passenger window from the engine, otherwise it looks better too, the car I mean.
