Hi All,

I just stumbled across this page reagarding the banning of beach driving in all South Africa where, as this author quite rightly states, that often they "wield the sword before the battle begins"

We might ask how this sort of decision making in another country could affect us, but sooner or later a pollie in need of an issue will rise up mouthing the proverbial emotional arguments and use SA's offroad laws as an example of environmental responsibility blah blah blah

It is simply something we should be wary of and perhaps the sooner a cohesive group is organised as representative of the 4wd community in a stable and rational manner the better the outcome will be.

Sitting here and tapping in complaints on a web site to like minded people will give us a warm and fuzzy for the length of the post however that will not affect the behaviour of a zealot on a mission who is shielded from the truth of the matter by his own bigotry

I will be interested to hear your comments.

Kind regards

Hi John,

I hear you, but the decision makers have the people divided. we are all at their mercy.

Some of the trouble is that the people making the decisions dont like the outdoors lifestyle and think that the rest of us should sit at home and watch it through television or the internet like they do.

Its fine having special interest groups such as 4wd clubs, fishing party, motorcyle clubs, horse riding ect, to lobby the government as individuals about changes, but that will not change anything.

What we need to do, is ALL come together as a collective group under a banner such as the recreation party or something the likes. This way there is a considerable amount of pull at the ballot box.( we know the pollies listen when there is a lot of votes at stake)

Where I am, the horse riders are coming under attack and being removed from the national parks. People I have spoken to about this say "Its nothing to do with me I dont ride a horse"

Neither do I, but I know once the horses are out, next will be the motor bikes and then the 4wds.

The point I'm trying to make here is that we have to stand as one, and lobby as one.

Outdoor recreational activities are many and varied, from 4WD, camping, fishing, horse riding, bush walking, gemstone and gold fossickers and others. The authorities are not looking after us because we are fragmented and don't speak with a common voice. This has to change first.

Cheers

Nebster,

Similar thoughts and whole heartedly agree.

The more input the better tho on where to start and how this would be achieved the better.

You often see small user groups steamrolled by zealots be they developers wanting a highrise in a suburban lot or conversely homedwellers wanting to get rid of an airport that has been overcome by the urban sprawl.

If you want a good example of prohibition of everything resembling fun, take a walk down to Cottesloe Beach some day and have a look at the sign board which bans nearly everything except breathing and swimming. If the beach inspector doesn't get you the parking guy certainly will.

We are over-regulated and policed to death in OZ and seems we make rules so that we can employ officers to enforce them - forget the common sense?

True story: As a young child in the back of the folks car I heard Mum ask Dad, "Why did they build the Eiffel Tower?" to which he responded " so they could put a red light on top to prevent airoplanes flying into it."

Tooo true

Where do we start????

Check this site for a starter
My best starting point

Your intro is a tad misleading.

They have banned beach driving in quite a few states on Oz but I think that it will be a long while before something like that happens in South Australia as it is an integral part of the torurism industry and it attracts much needed income to the state.

But its like everything else. Politicians, self interest groups, and governments need to control the masses and eventually they will ban everything and the place will grind to a halt.
