Ive just bought a ten year old Cavilear Camper and I'm in the process of rebuilding her. Has anyone had any experiences with the heavy duty green 65lt
water tank which the manufacter claims can be mounted underneath the trailer?. The Cavilear web sits shows a tank with a 4X4 parked on it to demostraight the strenght. I'm a bit concerned about hanging it underneath, with flying stones and the possibllity of bottoming it out. However it will save a bit of room inside the trailer having it underneath. Experiences good and bad welcome.

Hi pHIL123,
Mount it underneath just put a stone guard under it,Me personally I would find the trailers balance piont and mount it on the centre line of that point..with the strenght you mentioned in the add and the stone guard you should'nt have any problems..remember space is everything for a trailer.Just my opinion.

JD,
Mines underneath with a stone guard around the outside, I've not had any problems at all. After a trip it's worth while checking to see if any stones have found there way between the stone guard and the
water tank. Over time these little stones can vibrate themselves through the plastic tank. When I first took my stone guard off i was quite surprised how far some of these little stones had actually worn into the plastic.

A little maintanance go's a long way..so true..better 40 minutes in the garage than hours on the track.

I'm guessing the tank you're talking about is the one made by camel group:
camel
water tank
Its not you're average caravan tank. The plastic is about a centimeter thick, and it has its own mounting system. whick obviates the need for straps, and probably the stone guard. I think they cost about the $200 mark.
I've got a Goughs undertray 80 litre
water tank that has a similar rugged construction but costs over $500. I had to change all the hoses to taint-free Nylex
water hose to stop the plastic taste.
Cheers
Phil

Re stones and stone guards around
water tanks. I had a similar problem on a
Cape York trailer with little stones and lots of dust/mud wedging between the metal guard and the tank . Didn't like the look of it and possible wear or rust issues. Cleaned it all out, then got a can of expanding foam and sprayed it into the spaces. No problems since.
