With thanks to all those who responded to my question a couple of months ago and pointed me in the right direction. I thought we had a bargain when UES sent us their best match to the measurements at under $60 a pair plus postage, but after fiddling around learning easiest way to get them on, the bonnet would not shut down, so back they went. We then got some 2nd hand Nissan ones sent from a 4wd place for $55 and they covered the postage, but they still didn't fit; they then sent the correct ones at no further charge. All up it cost us a fair bit on postage to and fro, but no more bonnet hitting me on the head. We replaced both, although only one of ours had gone - it just needs both to hold up the bonnet - so we have a spare on hand. It certainly pays to
shop around - i think Nissan genuine's were $300 each, and re-gassing $65 each. Motherhen

That's what i thought they said. Some pretty extreme prices on brand name parts have been mentioned here from time to time - and how a substitute has been obtained for a fraction of the price. Strangely enough though, we bought a spare radiator hose cheaper in genuine than the alternative product through a discount auto place. Just pays to
shop around, and never buy the first product offered without checking.
