Can anyone offer an opinion on these ice boxes ?,
Ice Kool 47 litre $165 at Snowies Outdoors
and
Frosties Ice box 50 Litre currently $85 at Rays Outdoors
Both boxes are blue plastic, one a lighter shade. Other than that, would appear to do the same job. Questioned the salesperson about the more expensive one and was given the usual speel of you get what you pay for - but to me they look very very similar - about the same amount of insulation.
Any feedback?

my 2 cents worth........ you get what you pay for. I have two Evakool and think they are the best iceboxes money can buy.
The 47l one is $310 I think but keeps ice for 3 days no problem . Had cheaper ones before and think they are a waste of money.

agree with what rhino says. you get what you pay for. had the same 47l
evakool and it did its job. with these you can get 4/5 days out
camping
with careful use.

Im with Brian, we have the 90 litre evecool and block ice lasted us 5 days in 30c heat we still had 3 blocks only half melted when we got home. would have lasted us easy another 2/3 days no problems. We were rapted with it and every thing stayed nice and cold. If you use party ice will only last you 2 days if your lucky this stuff from the garages is not that good. The trick is if you have a chest freezer to put it in about a week before you go will make a huge differance to how long it last's and also as said keep it covered out of direct sunlight will make it last longer as
well. Also the ones sold in the great outdoors
camping shops are the exact same ones only with there own logo on them. Keep away from the fibroglass one's creamy/white in colour, they work
well but are prone to cracking especially being thrown in and out of the back of a 4wd They are no where near as robust. Hope this makes your decision a bit easier. Regards Steve M

Yep, EvaKool are the ducks guts.
For knock around get a Tropical.
The dear way to buy an esky is to buy a succession of cheap alternatives and then have to get a quality unit beacsue the cheaper ones have not met the designed purpose.

I have a 150 litre Ice Kool box that was $360 if I remember correctly, from Rays Outdoors 2 years ago. I line the bottom with frozen 3 litre plastic milk bottles and throw a silver tarp over it to keep the sun off. After 4 days in 30+ heat the bottles were still approx. half frozen despite being opened a fair bit. I don't doubt that the EvaKool boxes perform better, which they should for the price, but I like the unfinished look of the Ice Kool boxes. It doesn't worry me scratching it or standing on it with dirty boots etc., which I don't think I would do with the nice polished finish of the others. The same argument as driving a second hand 4wd vs brand new one I guess. Bottom line, I'm happy with
mine!
By the way, the Eva Kool mob make the Ice Kool boxes if the saleperson hasn't already told you.

i've got an "ice mate" made by eva cool. made of plastic so tough as guts and great insulation as with all eva cool eskies. keeps block ice for 4-5 days. cost me about $160 for 63L box.
worth a look at, i think they're better than the tropical box style
