I know someone who got one - don't know if he's been away in it yet. It looks good. If i speak to him i will find out and let you know.

Got a mate who has one on the back of a Nissan tray. been across the Anne Beadel , up the Canning , down the Colsen and across the Simpson Plenty. He has had no problems with it except scratches. Only problem when you camp for a couple of days at say a park you have to take it with you and leave something behind as someone will take your spot. But if you travel by yourself not such a problem as if you want to camp as a group together.

Joe
We have a slide on and its the best thing we have done.
We used to have a camper trailer before with a tinny on top and the outboard mounted on the A frame.
Now we tow a boat with little to no extra fuel consumption and NO LIFTING.
I have put the email address of the guy who built ours and he does a really great job and has one just finished ready to go.
When looking at slide ons look at the quality as we looked at a lot and found that the imported ones are spending a lot of time in the workshop being repaired.
We havent had to do anything to ours and it has been to NT and around.
Remember you get what you pay for and what seems dear first may turn out to be cheap in the long run.
Good luck.

The Trayon is an excellent unit that has a low profile for tight tracks & low wind resistance. It's very simple to errect & bleep es me off when my mates got his errected in 5 minutes & sitting down having a drink as I'm still unpacking the car looking for my tent :-)) The cavas work is excellent & has barely had a leak despite some severe rain. Just need to watch your head getting in & out.
The main problem with his is the time it takes to get it off & braced up. I'm sure they could come up with a better system than they have. About 40 minutes to take it off & strap it down.
The weight of the unit is a little high & if fitted on a steel tray together with filling all the cupboards & tanks does take it to the GVM or above so a big petrol or turbo diesel to pull it, particually in sand would be a bonus.

Hi Craig,
So you think the new Hilux desiel would have trouble with the final load weight on the likes of Darren's trips(allowing for suspension upgrade)....as the 360kg extra weight would only be offset by getting rid of a 15kg tent....and something has to be done about fuel capacity which on the hilux is around 80/90lt.
cheers

Because of the sturdyness of the camper & it's many features it does weigh a little more than some others. I asume the 360kg is the dry weight so by the time you load yourself, water, food, fuel, clothing, bedding then add this to the tray, bull bar, winch, compressor etc it will be up around the 1.2+ tonne mark. I suspect that next to no one with a Trayon (or almost any other slip on camper) can keep the weight down enough on a desert trip to be legal. On top of the tent you do lose the weight of a mattress, stove, fridge & storage boxing.
My mate has found his hard to drive in sand despite being fitted on a turbo cruiser although there is no doubt they are strong enough to take over almost any terrain. He also fitted Firestone air bags which carried the additional weight perfectly.
Would you be able to follow Daz up the desert? Yes but that extra convienience & comfort does come at a price that being it will be harder to get over the dunes. Not sure how the new Hilux would handle the weight as I haven't seen one fitted but on Patrols, Cruisers & Landrovers they are pretty good.
If you are up this way I can organise for you to speak with me mate, have a chat, closer inspection.
Cheers Craig..........

Hi Trevor,
I looked at it at show and it is good value for money....The ladder height and getting onto it to get down I find difficult....Have been wondering if more effective laddrs are available.
Cheers

Hi Joe

We have the Carryme too and love it.....easy to put up, little less weight than the Trayon and great value for money too.
We got one of those mutlifold ladders (get decent brand quality one - no cheapie) and we took the 2 middle pieces out rejoined it with bolts (spring washes too, I think) and we use lock tight (glue) to secure the bolts better.

We looked at Trayon and our immediate impression was we were impressed, but what we wanted to do with the Trayon did not suit us.
We have met some people since looking at them 2 years ago who have them and one copule actually put extra doors on the outside that to access the inside instead of having to undo it and unpack stuff to get to things. This is more money but maybe well worth it?

Hi Tripp'n,
Yes I agree, that extra weight is a bit much and will limit where you can go.
Good points about the ladder.....the Carry Me package is more flexable.
thanks for your comments
cheers
