Pulley bearing is on the way out. Anyone managed to find a cheaper solution than $300+ dealer prices. I understand that the pulley is fine & so is the tensioner, its just the $20 dollar bearing that needs replacing. Has anyone managed to punch out the old bearing and put in new one & what part number is the bearing?
How hard is it to remove the pulley system? All advice appreciated

Goons,
A friend of
mine did it, he first manufactured a pulley (cast as opposed to the genuine pressed steel) but used the same size bearing...
Not happy with it because the bearing is just too small and doesn't last too long so he made a new pulley using a double row bearing.

The exact same pulley and bearing can be bought from an airconditioning place for around $25. That was my experience with my GQ. I am sure the 3lt GU will have the same pulley. You should just be able to unbolt the pulley.

G'day Willie,
No mate, the 3 L donk's tensioner is COMPLETELY different mate. The 3L has a serpentine belt...(one belt does everything except make you a cup of coffee) and the tensioner assembly is a backing plate with a unit that looks like a small shockie and the pulley.
Sorry, can't talk anymore....got some choccy that needs to be eaten!!!!
Hooroo

Is the vehicle still under warranty, because this is a known fault. If it is under warranty Nissan replaces the whole shooting match, including the belt.

As usual these things happen out of warranty. October 2001 build.
Confirmed price for idler pulley is $360 from Northside Nissan
Just got car back from mechanic today to find out that i have also got an intercooler full of oil so looks like the turbo is stuffed aswell.
Trip to
Exmouth next week now looks doubtful!

Check with your mechanic about how much oil is in the intercooler, these motors do spit a bit of oil out of the turbo, it's no biggie.

Muzzgit
theres about 1mm coating inside pipes & intercooler. There is also a trail (not running) coming out of the intercooler that lands on the rocket cover and down the back of the engine. Spoke to
united fuel inj and they seem to think turbo is ok but i've got a hole in intercooler. Its not affecting the engine oil level between changes although the car does seem a bit sluggish
