I have read, here, and on other web sites, about various State Governments cracking down on bullbars, and the like.

The one thing that interests me, is the little by-law, or whatever it is, that allows the Police to issue you with a Traffic Infringement Notice, if you have things obstructing your field of vision, like spotlights mounted up high on your bullbar, of fluffy dice hanging from your rear view mirror.

I was driving home today, and overtook a taxi, which was being driven by a REALLY short chap, could hardly see over the steering wheel....

Above his dashboard, attached to the inside of his windscreen with those weapon rubber sucker thingies, is the LCD readout module for the job, and meter & stuff, right about eye height I'd say.

What gives?

exempt?...doubt it

1 law for us and one for them......or do as i say not as i do!
police are exempt for using mobile phone....that law was for when they had standard UHF communication and they didnt want us to eavesdrop.

now that they have trunking communication why do they need to be exempt?

What frontal protection bar limitations are currently in force or proposed?

I am aware of restrictions on things that stick out eg rod holders, and lights above or in front of the bar.

There are two sets of rules for any group that makes the rules. Local, State and Federal Govt rules are excellent examples of these. Speeding policemen, drunken judges, medically inept health offocials. Jobs for the boys, jobs for the girls, jobs for the disadvantaged. Affirmative action. Political correctness. All of these things can advantage one section of society at the expense of other parts of society.
Questioning the status quo will probably earn you a reply like "get used to / over it.
Is it any wonder that youth has little respect for anything ?

Guess so, we are becoming more like the USA.

Messages from the top are: "Catch me if you can." and "Never you mind."

When we were in Perth in June this year the news was out that 5 poster bullbars were the dislike of the month as they were potentially dangerous. You see many of them on Holden Utes.

We were driving along the Freeway when a Motorcycle Cop passed us. He then slowed down deliberately to look back at our bullbars individually but then sped on.

Obviously ours were in compliance for that particular moment.

Recently I have seen 4bies with spotties on top of the bullbar, spotties on the roofrack and those fishing rod holders on the bullbar pointing forward.

As long as your field of vision is 11 metres ahead of the front of the vehicle in a straight line from your eye, you should be OK(thats not very well put but will have to do).

Cheers

Nudenut, In my neck of the woods, the off duty cop having his odd larger or three at the local water hole needs his mobile fone to call his mate on the highway patrol to advise of the departure and probable route of his next RBT client. Thats why the exemption.
Me? Cynic? Isnt that what you wash your hands in?

So what's the problem with complying????????
Why would you want a bull bar with sharp protusions on it? What advantage would it have?
What fool fits his driving lights on top of the bullbar obscuring his view 24/7 so he can see better at night?
Why does one need to have rod holders fitted to the bull bar for 12 months when most only use them for 5 days in the year? Couldn't they be quick mounted?
Who leaves a tow ball fitted to their bull bar because theyr'e too lazy to learn to back their boat or van?
Does it not matter that the loosely secured laptop screwed on top of the dash is creating a blind spot or is distracting your consentration? What will it look like when it's embedded in your skull after a crash?
& anyone who fits fluffy dice to their mirror deserves to booked by the cops :-)))
Cheers Craig.......

Sorry I don't fully subscribe to the conspiracy theory that 4 wheel drivers are singled out by the police any more than the taxis.

"What fool fits his driving lights on top of the bullbar obscuring his view 24/7 so he can see better at night? "

me. The spotty obscures next to no vision if you take into account the curvature of the bonnet and the relatively low mounting location, also it is not infront of the driver, so there is no problem.

"Why does one need to have rod holders fitted to the bull bar for 12 months when most only use them for 5 days in the year? Couldn't they be quick mounted? "

I guess the same can be said for the majority of 4by owners.... you baby crushing death-trap driver.

Yerssss. Here in perth there is a growing number of young men from the country who drive V8 utes with MACK bulldogs on the bonnet, Catarpillar mudflaps, 150,000 aerials, 450 spotlights, OH and yes a dirty big 4 poster bullbar.

PoOfTeR UtEs I call them.

The things I dislike the most are....

A. the Lightforce spotties mounted above the cab (anyone who has been confronted with these lights on the highway at night, now knows why it is illegal to mount them above the height of the vehicles driving lights)

B. that dirty great cow-catcher 4 poster bull bar on a vehicle that spends 90% of it's time in the city, and isn't even a 4WD.
