Hi.
I have just had a new clutch put into my cruiser at 180K.
The vehicle now kangaroo hops when taking off sometimes quite dramatically ( not all of the time and hot or cold does not seem to make any difference). Its actually very embarrassing.
When reversing our horse float (empty) I worked out what my wife was complaining about. The vehicle shudderd and hopped. Did this a few times with the same result.
I have been in contact with the installer who advised me that cruisers do this. I questioned this as it hasnt done it for the last 180K.
Has this happened to anyone else and if so what was the problem or problems.
Many thanks
Howard.

Howard T the 1990 TD Cruiser I had, got a new clutch at just over 300,000 km I am not sure if it had another one before that as I bought at 250,000 km. The old one felt spongy but I go used to driving with it. When the new one went in the first thing I noticed was it had a very abrupt action, there was no easing it out, it was either in or out with no in-between. This initially led to a case of kangaroo hopping sometimes but got used to it after a while.

HI Snowy
Thanks for your reply.
With the kangaroo hopping I think there is a problem there even bordering on dangerous.
A couple of weeks ago I pulled out from the gutter and the vehicle actually jumped 3 or 4 times and near jumped into the oncoming traffic lane. God knows what would have happened if my wife was driving. The road was not that wide though.

Gday Howard
Have a squiz at your docket and see if the flywheel was machined. If not this could cause shudder.
Find out what brand clutch kit was fitted. I fitted one to my cruiser, Daiken and had nothing but trouble. I took it out 12 months later and fitted a genuine toyota one and it was good. I only ever fit genuine ones now to all my customers cars.

Hi
If it didnt shudder before, but does now, the question is...what has changed??? If your old clutch slipped as it died, it may have put hot spots in the flywheel, im wondering also, if the pivot point on the throw out arm may need adjusting to suit the new pressure plates if there is a diofference in thickness from oem tio aftermarket. This does seem to be a common problem after a new clutch.

I second what 120s crusier said, ihave just replaced my 95FZ 80 SERIES clutch my self (not recomended to do by your self as the gear box is very big and heavy)had the fly wheel machined used, a toyota clutch kit.it's like new no shudder at all.very smooth.
Take it back to the installer,it should be better than you describe..
