Does anyone have the same problem.
Under load (Pulling 16ft Boat up a steep
hill) the turbo house blows off It apears to be no damage but it lets out a hell of a lot of smake when it happens.
It has been back to the mechanic a few time for it to be fixed they have put heveier clamps and hose on but it still keeps blowing of. only while under load though.
Does anyone know what the problem is and how did they fix it.
Regards
Trevor

Trev, I've had
mine blow off twice in five years, once under load (pushing it up a big
hill) and another time just cruising at 110kph on the highway. Both times I have just re-done up the clamp. There is a fair sized lip on the metal hose so I always ensure that the flexible hose's clamp is
well and truly on the other side of the lip to prevent the hose blowing off if the clamp comes slightly loose.
I'm afraid I can't offer any more advice than this - perhaps just checking the tightness of the clamp now and then as a precaution may help?

Happened once to us. We were heading up the
hill on the way home pulling the caravan when there was a bang. Advice was to check the clamps are tight every now and then. When i raised the question here, a number of people reported similar. At least we'll know what to do if it happens again. Last time we heard a clunk like that was when the gearbox went in the Cruiser and we were stranded
miles from home.

Hi there, my advise would be to take it to a turbo/fuel injection mob and get them to check the turbo boost. Sounds dodgy to me.
Pipe has blown off
mine once while accelarating with camper on, we pulled off the road, put it back on (tight) no probs since.

Trevor.
I have no first hand experience with this, but a recent posting mentioned excesive boost as a posable reason for piston cracking, this fits with piston overheating so I would be checking the boost control for malfunction, or fit a boost gauge, if the boost is going over spec. then we may finally have the "engine bang" mistery solved.
Eric.

A guy on the Yahoo Patrol list put a boost gauge on his 3 litre and was seeing peak boost pressures of 20 psi. It seems the variable vane exhausts on these turbo's are slower to react than the old wastegate type and it was peaking at 20 then dropping to 15 psi under load.
No wonder these things are breaking and blowing off hoses with boost pressures like that.
