Afternoon all,
Just wondering if any one has any knowledge / experiance on putting a larger fuel
tank under the GQ. We are running a GQ 4.2EFI on gas and petrol, the gas
tank holds around 90 litres of usable gas and the petrol
tank also holds 90 litres. What I'd like to do if its possible is to get hold of a
tank if possible and put a larger capacity petrol
tank in place of the 90 litre one. Theres not a lot of spare room under there due to the large gas
tank but I thought it may be possible to put a slightly deeper or different shape
tank in.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. The only other problem may be the cost if the only option will be to get a custom made
tank.
(Before I get hamered... Yes I looked at the previous posts on the subject but had no luck finding anything relevant).
Thanks in advance for any pointers..

Boo,
What you have got is the biggest
tank on the market. Being a GQ the
tank manufactures are not going to do all the R&D to make a bigger
tank for a non current vehicle.
Making it deeper would only reduce the clearance and a one off
tank with all the internal baffles, expansion tanks and plumbing would make it very expensive.

Not to contradict the above, but there are as many aftermarket parts for a GQ now as any other vehicle on the market past or current.
90L is the largest factory size from nissan but there are a range of larger replacement tanks or secondary auxillary tanks available from many suppliers.
there is no 'cheap' alternative as they start around $600 +, any some of the replacement tanks may not fit given your gas setup aswell.
however ring round ARB, OL or do a google search for "gq replacement tank" or long range
tank etc
www.4wdsystems.com.au also have replacement tanks that go in place of the factory one up to 159L.
as mentioned before it may not fit with ur gas ...but there are plenty of options if you have the $$$

Thanks for the suggestions. Will have another look and way up the value for money. Could just be a lot cheaper and easier to simply carry a few extra gerry cans on the long trips.

G'day Boo, I had a GQ 4.2 Petrol/Gas, got rid of the gas and put a Long
Ranger 146l
tank in. I'm sure there is also a
tank for what you are looking for. As a side bar when I sold the Petrol GQ and got the Diesel GQ I swapped the
tank over, it slotted straight in. I know you probably still want the gas but think about it anyway.

Boo,
Lately Ive explored the possibility of another fuel
tank on the opposite site of the tail shaft where the exhaust is. The muffler can be moved foward of the round frame crossmember and the tail pipe runs close to the tail shaft. Following the shape of the remaining fuel
tank (albeit 120mm narrower allowing for the tail pipe) the
tank should hold around 60 litres. I have approached a sheetmetal
shop to make the
tank (approx $300) and an exhaust place for exhaust mods and regulations($300 if replacing system) and all can be done. These prices can be reduced if you can do work on the project yourself, but it can be done.
Bear in mind your insurance company may not like this addition but.......
