Hi all,

Looking for some advice on the road between Esperance to Balladonia via Condingup. My maps indicate that it is half sealed, half 4WD dirt. We have a 4WD and camper trailer, and were planning on doing this road instead of going through Norseman (will travel through on way to Perth).

What is the condition of the road - sealed etc, and what sort of time would it save? We are looking to save a bit of time, but also to have some different scenery.

Thanks!
Cathy

There are two - the eastern one is via Mt Ragged and we didin't chose as we had a caravan. The one that leaves near Condingup starts as the Parmango road; ok but it was quite rough when we went through in January (not maintained after you leave the farming area). We were ok taking it slow, whereas vehicles without trailers moved quite quickly. Some places new tracks had been made alongside to avoid corrugations and wheel ruts, but they were no better. The northern end which runs through the station was slightly better.

G'day Motherhen

How are things in the beautiful South West?

We still seem to have wintery aspect here and summer won't be along till early January. Our rainfall has also increased this year and we have surpassed last years total by 25mm already. For a dry place that is quite good.

Regards

Hi Willem - STILL raining. Lovely and lush green. You certainly brought us the wettest season for many many years. Regards, Motherhen

You will probably not save any time as this way is a fair bit slower. I havnt trasvelled the Parmango rd but have done the balladonia track to poison creek a few times. There is alot to see with the best beaches such as Thomas River area. the lower part of the Balladonia track also has heaps to see such as pine Hill, juranda Rockhole, Balbinya hopmestead and the impressive Mt ragged.

I have just come back from doing the parmango track, towing a camping trailer. we checked with calm and council but the local farmers gave us a "little" better info. We were told they had 1" of rain three days earlier and it would be very difficult to travel but we did it anyway and found a 2 wheel drive (travelling a bit slower) could of travelled it. people say it takes the same time as going through norseman but locals say it is 170km shorter and 1 hour quicker. the top half of the track is the slowest because it is maintained by norseman which would rather see you go through their sleepy town and spend your money rather than elsewhere. I did here that a car had rolled travelling that track but they were travelling at 90 kms so I guess it just comes dowm to being sensible for the conditions.
regards
