I'm looking for a lightweight, two-person tent that can be pitched "fly first". Most of those are very expensive, but I've come across the Great Outdoors "2 Lite": http://www.greatoutdoors.co.nz/Files/AdventureTents2.jpg which is about $300. The only problem is I haven't found a single shop in Melbourne that sells it and even the manufacturer is not aware of one. The closest is in Warrnambool!

Does anyone know of a shop in Melbourne that might have it? Or, if you have this tent, what do you think of it - is it worth buying? Can it really be pitched fly first, for one thing? Is there any other pitch-fly-first tent out there that's reasonably priced?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Truckster, a "fly-first" tent is one that allows you to put the fly up first and then put up the inner underneath it. I think the basic idea is that the poles thread through sleeves in the fly. I spoke to a guy at a camping store today and he was saying it's not really such a good thing, because you can easily poke a hole in the fly with the poles when threading them through. Hmm...

The big advantage is when it's pouring down (melbourne??;-)) and you don't get the tent wet while pitching it coz the fly is already up (hence fly-first) and you're underneath. Same when taking it down - only the fly is wet (in an ideal world)

Yep, that's pretty much it. I had tried to put up a cheap tent during rain. It had mesh at the top of the inner, so you can imagine the results. Thank God the rain stopped before nightfall! I had to actually tip water out of the tent like it was a portable swimming pool and then scoop some more out with a cup and finally mop up the rest with a T-shirt.

Apparently, on some of the good tents it's not such an issue. The inner tent is not waterproof, but it is water resistant. (There certainly isn't mesh at the top for water to get through.) If you put it up quickly and the rain is not too heavy then it should be alright. That's what I've been told, anyway - anyone care to comment?

I see putting up a tent UNDER a fly thats already erected, as a pain in the arse, how do you get the pegs in? how do ... I just cant see it working.
YMMV
