A question for the Victorians- we will be down your way in the next couple of weeks and would like to travel from Benalla-Mansfield_Matlock to
Warburton we have an almost new V6 Prado and will be pulling a 15' Phoenix off road van, I am a competent driver and would like some feedback from people who know this area and if there are any real nasties (bends, hills) that I need to know about or even you consider this road unsuitable for this rig.
Thanks in advance
eerfree (but I do listen)

The road is ok for your van. Its very windy between the end of the black top and
Woods Point, its just a matter of keeping left.
Good
views from
Matlock up along
the ridge above the dugout.
Enjoy the drive.

Hi eerfree,
Travelled to
Woods Point from
Melbourne this weekend and know the roads in the area
well.
Past
Matlock heading to
Warburton the dirt road has just been graded. The road up on Saturday needed care at times as the rain had made many extremely slippery corners. On Monday the road was dry and really good.
So just be a bit slower if there has been recent rain.
The road around Gaffneys
Creek & A1
Mine is pretty narrow in spots but they regularly drive semis on it.
You will have no problems. Great trip and lovely country.
Enjoy!

And one thing I find, if a caravan pulls over to let following vehicles pass on windy roads, everyone feels much better. You probably already know and do this but I have been so annoyed by some inconsiderate people doing 30kmh for 20 km's along slow windy roads, have even seen yelling matches at a
junction where both cars stopped. Not needed, makes for a crappy escape.

Well55,Woodsy and Bonz
Thanks for the info, we are looking forward to the trip, often on these roads it is difficult to find a spot to let traffic thru but when I consider it is safe for both me and the overtaking vehicle I will give way to anyone behind me, in general I find the vast majority of motorists are patient those that arn't I smile at and give them a little wave!!!!

The road to
Woods Point after Jamieson is
sign posted as unsuitable for caravans as it gets particually tight around Gaffney's
Creek & A1
mine. It's not that your van wont make it, rather it's so narrow that you will take up all the road & if there is oncoming traffic you'll need to cross your fingers & hope they stop in time then find somewhere to pass. Having worked up at
Woods Point regually our company vehicles have been hit no less than 5 times by speeding cars & even a motorbike.
It's certainly a great drive through some interesting country although a slightly wider road would be from Jamieson to Eildon, Marysville etc.....
Cheers Craig............
