We are looking at replacing our shopping jeep/mum's taxi pord pelican with a smaller 4cyl. The eb pelican is getting long in the tooth and due for replacement.

Have been looking on trading post and an elantra with lowish k's fetchs around 10-12k. This is our price range. Looking at 00, 01 and02 models which are similar to current model I think? Anyone own one and can give me any feedback on them?
Thanks.

Hi there warthog.yes our friends have one bought it brand new. It's the last of the sports wagon 2litre engine. great little car excelent on fuel 700 klms per tank I think is a 60 litre tank.5 speed manual, aircon power steer electric windows etc. Top little wagon its a 2000 model with I pretty sure 75000 klms and is up for sale.Has had all the services by the book.Sorry I just read the question again there's is a lantra not an elantra but the same motor anyway. Hyundai have come a long way since the firts of the excel they had that drive away price and people use to think they were cheap n nasty but they wern't that bad. They are heaps better now though. As with anything youget what you pay for but hey just have to have a look at the new hyundai range new turbo diesel etc and they are great. Good luck in getting one Dont forget if you are not mechanically minded might pay for you to get an inspection. Regards Steve

Thanks for the feedback Steve, we like the sportswagon as well so if we find a good one of those it might suit. Cheers

We have one of these , done 145,000 in it now, Hwy driving most, we get about 700 k from the tank, its never missed a beat.

Its not built like a Toyota, the finish is rough but as for performance its ok.

I drive it hard, red line it alot (just for fun) Plz dont tell my wife :-)

My brother had a sports wagon, he has had no problems either, thats what made me look at them in the first place, he has now done 180.000k

I would get another, good value for money in my book

Thanks Brett, 180,000 and going strong is good. Sounds like good value. Don't care that much about the bells and whistles as long as the aircon works and its reliable. Only going to be used around town for the most part.
