the new Baby came home Monday night , in the shape of a Black 100, the onyl option been safety pack and factory sunroof.

Alas the TUF100 plates are still hanging on the garage wall, till she is worthy of wearing them. Picked up a Sahara bar today but waiting to get it painted. I am in shopping mode so Giota is stressing out big time lol

Just like saying that tuff and 100 series don't belong in the same sentence Bro. It would be different if it was tuff and 60 seriessssss........

I fitted a TX3400 in a Hilux last year for a mate. His stereo is the same as yours with the DIN and a half size front. I found the remote head of the 3400 fits real nice in the empty bit at the top. It takes a little cutting of the plastic and fabricating some brackets, but it looks sweet. The green illumination of the stereo and the 3400 makes it all look factory fitted at night!
I'll try to get some photos if anyone is interested...??

Probably not relevant to you, but I have a TX3400 and with a couple of extension cables, the remote head is mounted onto a bracket off the rearview mirror. No cables hanging down and easy to see and change settings while driving. The radio itself is mounted behind the glovebox. If you were interested, I could em you a photo,

Hey Rock Crawler,

I drive a 100series and have mounted my UHF unit beside my left leg mounted on the gearbox hump. It requires two screws through the mounting bracket into the side wall of the gearbox hump. It works well and is out of the way and easy to reach. The unit faces up and I have the microphone bracket mounted to the UHF main body.

Send me an email on a4wd at ozemail.com.au and I will send you a pic if you like.

I've done a similar thing but put it on the passengers side with the face level with the trim around the gearstick. Easy to get to, easy to mount, easy to use. The mic is mounted sideways behind the gearstick.

I find this setup works very well and is a piece of bleep to install.

For the other things if you're interested, GPS mounted central on dash so easy for either driver or passenger to read. Handsfree CDMA cradle kit mounted to the little panel on the LHS of the heater controls. External speaker fitted to the front right of gearstick which still allows access to power outlet and ciggie lighter.

The console cover just clips out and the console itself can be removed by unscrewing the gearstick and H/L knobs, then there's one 10mm bolt towards the back RHS.

The dash is easy too. The black bit at the bottom of the gauges simply pulls out, then undo the electrical connectors. The lower part has two screws to undo then it unclips. The upper will come out with a bit of stuffing around with the ignition surround which rotates out.

I took an independant direct feed from the battery so it's live the whole time (monitoring UHF, charging batteries etc) which is the way I like it and wired in a multi-outlet ciggie lighter style for any other accessories I might use. Always put an in-line, water proof, spade type fuse at the source (batt) which gives a degree of safety. Down the line I put in smaller inline fuses for each application too.

The big grommet on the drivers side is easy to run a feed through. I heat shrink all connections for waterproofing and aesthetics. Bunnings sell heat guns for $16 and Supercrap sell heat shrink although I try to avoid them whenever possible. The smaller auto places often have a display board of Narva products which have all you need with vastly better quality than SC. I also cable tie everthing up as neatly as possible and cut the ends off as I go.

Hope this helps.

Be careful with the Bling dude. You'll end up with 22" spinners, low profile Pirelli's and 12mm ground clearance. Massive.

Eric,

Had the same dilemma with our GU. Ended up going with a rood console. Most commercially made units seems to use existing fixing points so you don't have to go drilling (or otherwise modifying) into your roof. Good thing about the roof console is that we had plenty of room for later additions such as the HF.

Had the same problem myself in my LC! Hunted high and low for a suitable spot. Options you have are:

1. Buy remote head CB and mount head anywhere (which I would do next time). OR
2. I built a box for the top of my landcruiser dash and fixed it with velcro - doesn't look too bad actually. You can buy similar ones from the department of interior.
OR
3. Mount on side of transmission tunnel.

I did #2 only because I like the challenge of building things.

I believe from an forum you have the 090 same as me.
