Can you use air compressor fittings to run diesel thru them . Say i wanted to quickly disconnect a diesel fuel line by joining the line in the middle with air fittings . Specifically the two rubber fuel lines that go from and too the fuel filter . Would this be safe ?

It would depend on the material the seals or "o" rings are made of. I personally wouldnt do it. Its probably unlikely but it could become uncoupled by a stick or if a rock hit it.. doesnt really feel good to me.. maybe you can find a ststem with a positive locking ring or something that cannot be bumped apart. regards , Michael

Hi Glenno,
I have used air fittings to run diesel before with good results. - I too was worried that because the diesel would not be under so much pressure - it would leak - however it sealed perfectly. I used it to temporarily install an additional tank on the tray back when required.

As far as it being safe/legal??... - Can't make guarantees here! Infact I think it would be neither!

some of the higher spec nitto fittings would work, the ones with viton seals.

But i would recommend getting some proper 'dry break' connectors as they are specifically designed for fuel, get some in a dual action if you can - ie - 2 seperate and different actions required to disconnect, this will reduce the chance of them acidentally coming undone on you.

stay clear of the 'aussie' fittings which have chinese adapters, they leak like a sieve.

Have a look at tractor hydralic conectors, they may have what you are looking for.
