Hi Team
It's been a while since I posted and I need some help and advise on turbo's. I have a 4.5 Petrol Patrol and I want to put a turbo in, but I don't know what's involved in doing that, costings, what needs to happen etc etc?
Hope you are all doing
well

First up what is the compression ratio of the engine this can be the limiting factor as to how much boost you can run or if you can turbo it
Putting a turbo on a petrol is generally a bit more expensive than on a diesel as
well.

Yes it will be in the back of the manual somewhere
Under engine specifications
It will list things like
Displacement in cc,
Bore, Stroke, Compression ratio, Firing order and so on
It nothing major but factory turbo petrol engines run a lower compression ratio than on a non turbo petrol. If the compression is up around the 9.7:1mark you may only be able to run a max 6P.S.I Boost or you could suffer from Detonation you may also need to have it tuned to run on PULP to keep this from happening.
Don’t let this put you off it, This is worst case scenario stuff the best bet would be to talk to a turbo or supercharger mob and get there opinion and look at options. I am I WA so can’t recommend anybody.
Personally I think supercharging is the better way to go just my preference.

Generally, I believe supercharging is preferable to turbo'ing for petrol donks. Sprintex have a pretty good name.

Hi Troll,
When you want info on turboing in
Brisbane I would speak to
Brisbane Tuning and Turbo's in the Gabba. Very knowledgeable but rather expensive so they are not neccessarily the people to use if you go down that track, but they know what they sell.
Supercharging is another option but also not the cheapest option, good info from Stealth Superchargers in Brendale.
Hope your trip O.S went
well.
Regards Trevor.
