Hi All
Is it worth doing an update on the firmware on my meridian gold. I currently have V4.6 and run Discover Aus. I looked at the Meridian Aust site and it said ignore the Nth american only because it suits Aust as
well in the firmware.
I went to the American site and it has upgrade version V5.4 and want to know what the improvement is? and is it really worth doing?
I hope i have't confused anyone because i know I am!!!
Cheers Tim

No, not really.
Certainly don't go past 5.12. Most of the latest updates really only relate to the Auto routing functions of the newest Magellan software and have had a few bugs.
There has been quite a bit of discussion on some of the forums on Yahoo & others about this topic.
Have a google. I think the Codan Outback Radio
forum had a thread on it recently.

The sites will tell you what the upgrades do. If you get the updated firmware from Magellan, you should have no problem, but read up on wht the updates do.
Im running 5.12

The sites don't always tell you all the problems with each fw!
I have a Color and it started life with fw5.36.
I updated to 5.40, then I finally got my DAST topo SD card.
The topo SD card is fantastic, but fw 5.40 make the GPSr crash(reboot) on some occasions??
Any firmware up to 5.36 won't crash the GPS (as far as I have searched), BUT!! the look of the maps on the GPS screen is much better with the 5.40 firmware (on my 'Colour')
I would suspect that v5.35/5.36 is the better option for non-Colour meridians, I read there were accuracy problems with v5.12!
Next Destination emailed me back on my query about the crashing problem and suggested that fw 4.51(??) or 5.36 are best. And no updates are in the pipeline :(
ps. I reckon fw 5.40 gives the best screen refresh rate(with large maps on SD card) of all the firmwares. It's not by much and hard to quantify, but that's just my opinion.
To answer the question...on a 'Gold' don't use 5.40, find fw 5.36, or leave it alone!
