Howdy peter, sorry to hear about your misfortune. What did the service centre have to say when you returned with your imobile Pajero?

Sorry about the misfortune. Sounds very much like valve lifters minus oil. They chatter like that when oil is not applied. Of course it may only be a sticking lifter, but I donate to the no oil theory. No oil short trip engine siezes.

I had the same problem with a mitsubishi LA Lancer back in 1986,during the service the apprentice forgot to put oil back in the gearbox,he was diverted by a phone call from his younger girlfriend at the time! Need less to say he lost his job over it..Bad mistake, those
young girls will eventually get ya into trouble!!

I would try to get an independant inspection before returning to the dealer so you have an idea of what is wrong and what caused it to happen for future arguments. It may be coincedence or their fault, they will want to keep things quiet and if possible duck the expence. I don't know where you live but NRMA inspection or equivalent may be the go. Barnray

Forgotten oil seems to be catching - my cousin just had to go to court in Pt Douglas to get money out of a dealer that forgot to refill a transmission with oil after a service - worksheet said "transmission oil checked - okay". Yeah, okay, now how about putting it back after checking!
