Any particular reason it has to be no where near water??

Usually thats what you want with kids, a beach etc.

Understand entirely your concerns about water. If you haven't already, then get both your kids enrolled in learn to swim classes. Not only will it ease your mind when your near water but the kids will have much more fun.

There are so many places to go camping on the coast but they mostly all include water of some description. Once they have some confidence in the water, take them camping to the beach and have fun.

You won't regret it.

Kerrie.

We travel ten hours to the Victorian Golden triangle at least once a year, we have a 12volt operated shower system, and to get our hot water we heat it up in a 20 litre steel drum on the open fire. Our water supply comes from a 59 litre water tank under the small caravan we also tow,and we also carry a spare 40 litres in 2 other drums.Ive made my wife a sturdy plastic bucket with a garden hose cut down the middle which fits around the rim,(for comfort) while peeing during the middle of the night, then she gets up in the morning and just ditches it somewhere then behind a tree.AND she loves that, now this is camping!!! what more could ya want?? A mate of mine's wife liked it under the stars...5 stars! (only) poor bugger.

Can't help with the camping, but I know plenty of divorce lawyers with 3 hours.

Set up a tent in the back yard - that is of course unless you live near the water. Sorry, I'm being flippant. Get out there and enjoy yourself. Travelling more than 3 hours in a vehicle these days is not that far.

my brother is driving back from bunderberg the day before we set off so he doesnt want to spend another 6 or 8 or 10 hours driving, for 3 days then to turn around and come home. We dont get out as often as id like so im happy to live with these limitations for now rather than not get out.

Hello Guy

A toddler can travel to find water even in an apparently safe area . Better idea might be to go to a boat shop and buy the kids some good quality flotation vests . Then you can add all the wonderful camping areas near water and you can start to teach the kids water safety .

Can't suggest a location, but as a good idea, I did see some people camping with toddlers, and they had a large fly-screened enclosure with a floor. This was great for the kids; they just emptied the box of toys in there (along with the kids), and they were happy for hours, with no flies or mozzies and were relatively shaded.
For a shower, get one of those 12v shower pumps from Jaycar, a 10L bucket and heat your water on the fire. And buy an enclosure. Those clever wire-spring-framed enclosures pop up to dunny-size, and take up no room when packed. Even for the less-embarrassed, the screen keeps the wind away when showering.
cheers,
Gerry

Take a look at Yengo National Park, near Gosford on the Central Coast. You can camp there, and if you go for Mt Yengo you get a key, after you have paid your fees. Toilets (non-flushing). no creeks or rivers etc ... and it isn't a bad drive around the area.

Link for Yengo NP

why not start with a CP first , just to start the fun of outdoor camping , and slowly venture on from there . Long prosses but you will get there in the end

Why don't you travel North and meet your brother up the coast? He wont have to travel as far and you can travel further than three hours. The North Coast has loads of spots to camp. As for kids and water; they go hand in hand with FUN. You just need to be vigilant. Trial Bay near Kempsey has everything you want plus calm water. You only need to worry about water if you don't watch the kids, and if you don't watch them where there's no water it's just as dangerous. If you want to relax and not worry about the kids leave them with the grandparents.
