I've just spotted a '96 4.2 diesel Troopy in a local car yard.
Its done about 250 000 k's On the surface it looks good. The asking price is
$16 000. It has a few extras.
Would this be a fair price (an internet search shows similiar vehicles around this price) This would have to be an everyday vehicle so fuel economy around town would be an issue ( it couldn't be anyworse than my current vehicle)
Is there anything in particular I would need to look for?

Service history. Get it checked by someone who knows them but if it has been serviced reguarly, there should not be much wrong with it. The engine has only just run in.

Don't know about pricing but we love our Troopy

If you buy it change the coolant ,diff, gearbox, trannie case oils straight away . Get someone who knows troopys to check it out . The caryard should let you take it away for an independant check .

My troopy just clicked over the 250K reading, its a late '89 model though.
There is a crack in the passenger A pillar top end, and the gutters have rust where water obviously sneaked behind the sealing goo. Check these area's, I have been told its a common troopy problem.
The steering swivel bearings need to be checked ( replaced mine) and the wheel bearings.
Check the drive shaft seals and listen for diff whine - the latter is expensive if ignored :-(.

I would not call 250k "just run in", I know they last a lot longer but you really have to look after them when they get to that vintage. It all depends on the previus owner(s).

Too much. I looked at a troopy with about 50,000 less ks advertised for 15 with heaps of extras just the other day and being a private sale I would bet you could get it for at least 2 grand less. My honest advice is STAY AWAY FROM THE CARYARDS
