Has anyone experienced a front end tinkering noise (fan area) when starting the engine cold (first thing in the morning). Noise tends to fade away after 3-5 minutes idling. My car is a 4.2td model. Sounds like a bearing noise but not sure. Much appreciated for any info.

Be ready with a water spray, spray the belts and pulleys.
If the noise disspears it is the belts, if the belts are noisy, best thing is to replace them…

Thanks for the reply, when you say water spray does that mean water dispersant or just plain water. My car has only 45,000 km's, is it premature for belts to be replaced at this stage?

When I say spray it is just water, it allow the belts to quiet down and troubleshoot the problem.

I replace my belts every 40000kms, they last more than that (much more) but they glaze and start to wear the pulleys down so for the cost you are better off replacing them but use genuine belts or excellent quality ones.

They are a piece of cake to replace.

I agree with the belts. Just had mine replaced as I was having the noise problem. I have had to have this done twice. Just spray them and you soon know. It will also assure you that it not something more serious.
