Patrol GU4 Tail Lamps

Post 26052 submitted by 4x4Treker Sept 05 was of interest to me because like 4x4Treker I also wish to connect the large rear tail lamps on my Patrol and face a cost of $500.00 retail to buy a pair of the genuine Nissan lamp assy's as fitted to vehicles they export to countries not governed by ADR's. The reason they are not connected in Australia is because with the spare wheel fitted on the right rear cargo area door the geometric visibility of the lamps having to be visible from a 45 degree angle inwards is restricted. Why they just don't connect the lamps or don't fit globes to them to achieve the same end result I am not sure about as the wiring and plugs, etc are already there and taped back out of the way to the wiring harness. As I understand it from a WA dealer the lamps come with wiring, plugs and globes so it is simply a ($500.00) matter of removing the dummies and fitting/connecting the lamps. It must cost them more to make and fit the dummy lamps for the Australian market rather than just fit the standard ones and not plug them in. If 4x4Treker gets this message or if anyone else can help can you please tell me how you overcame the problem of the lamp lens being red in the indicator section. You state that you fitted amber globes but with the lens being red what colour result do you get when the indicator is on. I also liked your idea of connecting the right reverse lamp. It always makes me cringe when I see a $50K+ vehicle with the manufacturer too stingy to fit two(2) reverse lamps. At least with two there is more chance of others being aware that you are going to reverse (controversial topic) and as well the driver can see better at night :-)
