Unknown (forgotten) stock routes

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of organising something with a cantankerous old drover (COD) in WA. Does anyone have, or know of somebody who can assist in identifying what could have been known, as either the Western or Eastern Stock Route in WA?

From what we know, it diagonally follows the De Grey Stock Route, starting around Turee Creek (south west of Newman), then heads south east across the Ashburton River to Mt Vernon, down to Mulgul, Peak Hill and follows (what is now known as) the Great Northern Highway to Meekatharra.

We, or at least, COD has managed to obtain copies of very old maps from the WA Government. However, because of the lack of significant land marks, it's difficult to ascertain the route. We have also consulted Heritage Trails WA.

Because of our involvement in the Canning Stock Route, we have extensive knowledge of the various Government and non Government organisations within WA. The CSR is very well documented. However, other Stock Routes remain largely forgotten.

If anyone knows of another COD who drove cattle in the area (circa 1950), or person who has conducted historical studies of WA Stock Routes I would appreciate your help. Otherwise we will have to go down a long laborious path.
