Hi, I have a 2000 Prado GXL petrol - done 90,000 km. In city driving, when slowing down to about 10-15km/h and then accelerating, there is a very noticeable and annoying hesitation as the changedown to 1st takes place. it is almost as if the engine cuts out, but it is the changedown that seems to be the problem. I contacted the agent and also TMCA (I have a 6 yr warranty) and the feednback that they give me thus far is that " some of them do it and others don't - within normal operations". Has anyone else experienced this (hesitation) problem??
Cheers.

" some of them do it and others don't - within normal operations"....
Dont u just love the replies you get for people. That reply is a "cop out". Its like describing your illness to a doctor over the phone and he can tell u exactly what u have. I would be getting at least 3 expert opinions from auto transmission people before i worry about it. Only way to find out for sure is to have it looked at by experts.....problem is....finding experts that wont rip you off.
For a car like yours to be doing what you describe, it wouldnt be normal in my opinion, Technology today wouldnt allow it to be sold that way, they just wouldnt sell any once word got out that it has that annoying problem.
Go get it checked out properly mate. Hope its a simple fix.
Ange.

Yes I love how they use those excuses. I always follow up by asking how identical vehicles assembled under a quality assurance system can produce vehicles with some having "feautres" that the others dont.

Got same vehicle. Probably not as bad as yours sounds, but my kickdown is crap. Same for going into gear (auto).

Also check out you airflow sensor.
I had an anoying problem where it was loosing a bit of power and hesitating on acceleration. Turned out the hotwire in the airflow sensor was covered in "cr#p".
Quick squirt with electronic tuner cleaner, wire now
bright and shiny, hestiation all gone. (Be carefull not to damage or even touch the hotwire in the sensor. Very fragile, and expensive to replace - entire sensor).
